It took me a little while to find this place, it is on the road behind the visitors center and main museum. Do yourself a favor and make the effort. The museum is tiny but packed with fascinating exhibits and information about the brave polar explorers who used airships to try and archive their goal of reaching the north pole. Make sure you get there early as it has very limited hours but if you can make the time you'll be glad you did.

Very informative and interesting museum would have liked to have more time here but only had an hour spare as it doesn't open until 11:00 am. To do it justice you really need a good couple of hours.

Walk-up appeal for this museum is poor due to its isolated location, lack of any signage beyond a temporary plywood "tent" sign near the road, and the somewhat shabby house it is located in. However, once inside you'll find it filled with a vast array of interesting photos, articles, and even film clips about the 3 Arctic airship expeditions and disasters, as well as international rescue efforts.

This is not a museum for children. It requires a lot of reading from various professionally produced explanatory signs - some smaller, requiring you to stand close to read, and others blown up and hung on the wall so that you can stand back and read.

There is a lot of info on the crazy and/or brave men in all these expeditions - much of it about their personal lives. My biggest complaint is that there was a lot more repetition in the stories than I would like.

There are 2 floors of exhibits, all well-numbered so that you see it in historical order, and as long as there aren't too many people coming through at one time, it's easy to navigate. This is also a great place to get in out of the cold, wind, rain, snow of Svalbard for 1-2 hours, and there aren't many places to do this, other than the few tourist shops and the Svalbard Museum, which is also worth a visit.
