“Good service , variety”

The food quality was good though not extraordinary . But they had local food like whale, seal and reindeer meat . The service was welcoming, friendly . The view and atmosphere were fantastic , especially given the remoteness of Svalbard

“Dining with a view”

Nice restaurant located in the Radisson hotel. Good food, the sampler with deer, whale and seal was wonderful. Service was a bit on the slow side, price ok and over all value for money.

“Great but a bit expensive”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 2, 2013

Had dinner here twice and the deer we had our first night was cooked to perfection. The second time I had the vegetarian risotto and it could have been a bit more attractive and tasteful for the money that it cost. Other than that, a very nice restaurant.

“An inspiring experience”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 25, 2013

Enjoying food is a unique and personal experience. Brasserie Nansen offers a very good food as compared to its kind in other capitals of Europe, but considering the location and the conditions, and most of all the set - it is indeed a very very good one. Imagine yourself dining at the window, with a sweeping views over the road leading to the main road to the airport, with the bay as close to it. Well, the arctic char was poached to almost perfection and the lamb is something I would go for it the next time I'll be there. Try the whole experience and sit by the windows, even in breakfasts.

We dined for an evening meal and found both the food and service to be top notch.

To start, I had Rakfish (Norwegian cured and fermented fish) and my partner had a variety of pickled herrings. For mains, I had the most delicious Reindeer steak, whilst my other half opted for the lamb - both were cooked to perfection! Desert was cloudberry cream (without the cake, as they had not had a flight to the island with fresh supplies unfortunately, which was a shame) - another local delicacy.

Service was attentive, polite and we were served by all members of staff, all of whom were lovely to us.

We asked if it was ok to wear jeans on the restaurant and they looked surprised and said 'of course!' - I guess in a restaurant where you don't tend to wear shoes, as is local indoor custom, trying to stick to formal dinner wear would be a little pointless hehe!

Overall, a very nice experience and our big treat of our trip. The bill came to 1,342 NOK - which is extravagant, I agree, however, as I say, it was our treat and we didn't just stick to the cheaper dishes, and wine was served with every course. We felt it was quite good value in the end.
