Visted here in the spring. Covered in snow, so no idea what the outside looks like. Good potyted history of Spitsbergen's history, including hunting and the effects of the war. There are not many places to go in Longyearbyen, so this really stands out. Just don't upset the polar bear!

A small but informative and modern museum detailing Svalbard's history. Lots of stuffed exhibits so don't go if that isn't your thing. I appreciated that a lot of the exhibits were translated in to English, although there were some that weren't fully and I feel I missed out a little as I enjoyed reading all about Svalbard's history. The gift shop was good and pretty much priced the same if not cheaper on some items than other shops in town. Worth a look if you're interested in the place you're visiting.

While waiting to board an expedition to the waters in the Arctic circle, the hour or so wait is wonderfully passed with a visit to Longyearben's only museum gave a warm and informative introduction to the history, culture and wildlife of the region in a warm and lovely small-town setting. A great giftshop too.

Take 30 minutes, get informed what Svalbard is about from prehistoric geology until today's economic and social issues. Nice stuffed animals here and there - so something for the adults and children. You may also sit down to the floor and read some books. Nice souvenirs available - also some entertaining games.
