Yes it is expensive, however you are in a remote area!
That is what I kept repeating myself. However, the decor of the hotel, the friendly staff and the social responsibility of this establishment makes me say that this is an excellent hotel and I would stay here again if in Svalbard.
It has kind of rustic rooms but that is exactly what I wanted, not concrete walls!
I liked the bar, which has a good selection, and the fact that it is intercommunicating with a nice restaurant. Quite nice to have the opportunity to go from the hotel to the restaurant without having to dress up with 6 layers to then take them all off once Inside the restorant!
They have an activity program that is fairly priced and they'll help you with bookings. Very nice indeed!

I only want to say: thanks!!!!
Basecamp was the greatest choice possible.
Beautiful hotel, entirely in wood: the reception, the shared spaces, the room, all was perfect.
I really enjoyed the food, the smells, and the staff who was really kind and helpful in choosing what to do and where to eat in Longyearbyen.
And last but not least this is a barefoot hotel!
Also wifi was perfect around all the structure.
Wow!!!!!!!

Room Tip: Take rooms at the first floor to avoid people noise

Beautiful, authentic trapper style hotel - truly a unique experience! Highly recommended! This is a great place to stay for couples or families. The food was excellent and the staff were always very helpful

Room Tip: Get a room away from the Kroa restaurant side to avoid the sound of bottles falling into the trash.

Excellent Hospitalty. Lovely breakfast and coffee galore throughout. Quirky Norwegian design. Roasting showers. Only dropped a star on lack of morning breakfast before the early flight (which does go daily) to Oslo. Apparently, if you notify them they will arrange. Highly recommend.

Wow, where to begin...

I loved this hotel. The hotel is finished using reclaimed wood (purchased from a Russian mining town), creating a warm, inviting space. The rooms are unique (the photos show this well), very well maintained, and - with the crisp white sheets and comforter, very comfortable. The staff ere fun to talk with, and spoke excellent english.

The hotel is located near a couple of other hotels, restaurants, the grocery store and some shopping ('downtown,' such as it is in Longyearbyen). Easy walk to everywhere.

The shuttle bus to and from the airport stops there (~$5 each way).

We were only able to stay there two nights - I wish it had been a week or more. We stayed in the summer (endless sunlight - thrilling and weird), and I would love to stay there in the winter as well.

This is a wonderful choice for lodging in Longyearbyen.
