“Interesting for an Irish Independence buff”
Reviewed October 15, 2012

This is a house once owned by Daniel O'connell who is famous for helping in the Republic of Ireland's quest for independence. The house and the grounds are a nice stop along the Ring of Kerry loop. The beach is nice, but it's not as breathtaking as other sites along the Ring.

The scones and coffee are to die for. The tour was very informative and the woodland fairy walk was great fun.

“Never get bored here”
Reviewed August 1, 2012

Always take in a round here when visiting the area, the beach with its little walking paths, the gardens and the other short walks as well as close proximity to the Kerry Way makes it a great place to go. The house itself is nicely presented and the staff friendly, love the sea view from the blue upper floor bedroom. Also dont skip the tearooms in the courtyard, well worth a soup and apple pie after a walk!

“Not just a heritage house .... so much more”
Reviewed July 13, 2012

I decided to call in and visit the house not really knowing what to expect .... as it was only a couple of kilometres from the Ring of Kerry drive it was worthing having a look.

There was so much to see:

- the 300 year old house was owned by Daniel O'Connell. Daniel O'Connell; often referred to as The Liberator, or The Emancipator, was an Irish political leader in the first half of the 19th century. (I'd never heard of him so the introductory video was a great start. It was interesting to look through the parts of the house that are open plus the Chapel.
- the gardens were excellent and well worth a stroll through
- there are a number of other walks including a walk to the beach which is close by.

It is managed by the Office of Public Works. The O'Connell family donated the property to the Irish Government in 1966. Cost to enter is 3Euro.
