Crossroads Inn Traditional Lodgings
Ranked #3 of 36 Tinos B&B and Inns
Reviewed August 13, 2012

What a wonderful discovery! I've traveled to 25+ countries and make a point of seeking out boutique hotels and B&Bs, but rarely have I come across such a combination of modern elegance and an almost soulful love of the local art and history. The artful eye, passion, perfectionism, and "meraki" of its creator are evident everywhere.

I had the pleasure of meeting her, the architect Ourania Diamatopoulou, during a 4-day stay at the Crossroads Inn with my two children, 15 and 10 years old. (They wanted a pool, but when the saw the suite and the interior balcony-bedroom, they too were charmed into wanting to stay.)
Ms. Diamantopoulou has not only created an exceptional B&B by perfectly restoring two old stone houses; she has also improved surrounding areas and breathed new life into the fairytale-beautiful village of Tripotamos, which she so obviously loves. Cultured, discrete, warm and genuine; ask and she'll happily share photos of local customs and history.

Her care and attention are apparent in countless small touches; - from personally complied historical summaries, a website that greets the visitor with a high resolution old map of the island, an abundant supply of eco-friendly fragrant toiletries, and a welcome package of cake and cookies from one of the island's best bakeries. The rooms themselves are a delight to the eye and very comfortable. Ours had extremely high ceilings, fans that created ample breeze on hot days, modern functionality, beautiful art, comfortable antique furniture, and not a synthetic fiber in sight.

Overall: a labor of love and cultural appreciation, perfectly executed. Exemplary!

We were tempted while seeing Crossroads Inn Traditional Lodgings site, but when we finally saw the real thing we were amazed!
Tripotamos is a small pictoresque village 3km from Tinos port, on a mountain near Xobourgo castle. Peace and quiet are guaranteed, maybe you will hear the bell from the church on Sunday!
Crossroads Inn is an experience you shouldn't miss... You will find 3 separate houses, fully equiped to the last detail. We had the opportunity to stay to 2 of the 3, "Anogion" (2-level house, view to Dilos, 2 verandas) and the "Patitiri" (basement, very atmospheric and cosy), but we also saw the biggest of all "Palio Rakizio" which is also superb, ideal for a family.
Ms. Ourania (the owner and architect of the place) was also a big surprise. Very discreet, she gave us all the best places to eat and see, she thought of anything a traveller might need: we found "raki", traditional sweets and cakes as welcome, soft towels for the beach, bottled water for the 8 days of our stay, special coffee blends, handmade cosmetics (ah! the smell of this body lotion...), natural sponge, candles, anti-mosquito liquid, screen on all windows, night light, slippers, bathrobes, orthopedic beds and pillows with organic mattresses, sewing kit, iron, internet, pharmacy, dvd player.... every little thing had its place!
The decoration was excellent, the colors soft and fresh, the art (sculptures, paintings, photos from local artists - don't forget Tinos is full of marble!) tasteful. Everything brand new, clean and of good quality.
Tinos was also an apocalypse for us! More than 35 beautiful villages (our favorites: Kardiani, Arnados, Pyrgos, Agapi, Volax, 2 Xoria, Pyrgos, Triantaros), great museums (the museum of Marble Crafts is a must), more than 600 churches (half of them Catholic), monasteries (definetely visit Ursulines in Loutra village), archeological - geological sites (Xobourgo, Volax area, Livada) great beaches -if no wind :( Tinos is extremely windy! (Panormos, Kavalourko, Kolympithres, Kalivia), pigeon houses... the list is endless. We spent 8 full days, travelled 500km by car, 8km on foot per day and took 1500 photos! Tinos is a gem!
Last tips:
* Don't stay too long to the chora of Tinos, I mean the port area, it's very touristic and noisy to say the least, ok, you should visit the Panagia of Tinos, but leave for the
inland after that!
*Don't forget to try or buy "kapari" for your salads, honey, pickled artichokes, figs, "raki" and the local cheese "tyraki"- delicious!

We surelly recommend Crossroads Inn, Tripotamos and Tinos and will definetely come back for more!

The apartment we stayed in (for 3 nights) was excellent. A traditional mountain village house that has been sympathetically renovated to a very high standard and fully equipped for longer stays. The owner was really helpful in advising us on getting around the island. Try to make it for the honey festival at end of Summer - great fun with all the Greek sweats you can eat, washed down with raki. A car is advisable.
