Recommended length of visit: 1-2 hours
Owner description: Aquaworld - Crete's first Aquarium - opened in Hersonissos in 1995 - near Bus Stop 20. It features local sea life and reptiles from Crete and from all around the world. Most of the animals are rescued or are unwanted pets which have found a new home at Aquaworld. Our philosophy is simple - bring people and animals closer together and, inevitably, people will begin to respect and care more about the animals!

“1st visit ,fantastic experience”
Reviewed August 20, 2014

We have visited this area of Crete for the last nine years and this was our first visit, how sorry we are. We took the time to visit this year and it frankly made a day of our holiday. We were there for two and a half hours and really enjoyed the time. The animals are clearly loved and cared for by the staff who are very friendly, knowledgeable and clearly passionate about the animals. A visit here suits all ages from very young to old. The cost of the visit is worth the money as I suspect most goes to the care and environment of the animals. We will visit again and can only praise and recommend a visit to this little gem.

“Very friendly and good value.”
Reviewed August 18, 2014 via mobile

Very small little aquarium but we chose to go here over creteaquarium as this one does a lot of animal welfare care in Crete. Lots of the fish and reptiles are rescue cases.

The staff here all spoke perfect English and were very friendly and knowledgeable. The man who runs the reptile room has fantastic people skills. You are able to hold and touch all the reptiles including and 5meter snake, lizards of all types and tortoises. Great experience for kids!!

Once you have been in you also get free entry for the rest of your stay so you can go in and watch feeding time a in the morning. A really enjoyable and inexpensive day out.

“Amazing place!”
Reviewed August 17, 2014

We spent the morning going round the other large Crete Aquarium in Gouves which was nice but nothing special and quite expensive. On the way back we stopped in Hersonissos and found this little place round the corner from the Spar supermarket. We couldn't believe how great it was compared to the other one! The people who run it are so nice and they know so much about all their fish and animals. You can touch and hold nearly everything that's not a fish and watch John feeding them all at 1030am every morning. They give you a card when you first arrive which allows you to return, free of charge anytime in the next 2 weeks. We went 3 times in the end as it was so nice. I would definitely recommend going if you love touching snakes and lizards and learning lots about everything there. They have an amazing sea turtle called Stephania who is blind which is hand fed every morning. My favourite by far though was the brilliant chameleon "Bluey". He's so friendly and his eyes are just so cool! Check it out if you are in the area, you won't regret it!

“Small...BUT Perfect!”

Amazing!! Snakes, Lizards, Fish, and a few more suprises!! The best €6 you will spend(giving you unlimited visits for a fortnight!!!). This is somewhere suitable for children and adults alike. Spend 20 mins, spend 2 hrs, its up to you! You get to hold the reptiles and take pics with them, or arrive in time (1030am) to watch the feeding! You HAVE to see the octopus being fed (Amazing)! I loved this place and look forward to going back before I leave!!
