Owner description: Aquaworld - Crete's first Aquarium - opened in Hersonissos in 1995 - near Bus Stop 20. It features local sea life and reptiles from Crete and from all around the world. Most of the animals are rescued or are unwanted pets which have found a new home at Aquaworld. Our philosophy is simple - bring people and animals closer together and, inevitably, people will begin to respect and care more about the animals!

If you come to Chersonisos - do not miss this fantastic place. This little Aquarium is hidden away in something looking like an apartment block - but do not get fooled. You just pay €6 for adults and €4 for children and then you can come back as much as you want. The couple who owns the place are there to guide you around the facility and are eager to explain every little detail about the animals (where they are from, how they were rescued, their names - YES they actually all have names, etc.).

We had to revisit the place due to the feeding time - and what a sight. At 10:30 you are able to see the LARGE snakes get fed, the octopus, the lizards, the turtles, etc....

My son partner and I visited here last week whilst staying in chersonisos. It cost us 16 euro in total and could visit again anytime during our stay at no extra cost.. This place is rather small but really interesting to visit.. The couple that own it make it really interesting and obviously have a great passion for what they do. My son thought it was brilliant watching the snakes eat and blondy eating a banana and trampling all over anything that was in his way (including my feet) great morning out would definitely reccommend to anyone visiting this area :-)

This is a lovely place for everyone to visit, it's not the biggest aquarium you'll see but it has that personal touch. During our visit we had a personal tour & found out loads of interesting facts about all the animals that are kept there, which are very well kept & loved. We also watched the feeding of their lovely sea turtle & got to pet her after wards. Lovely place, worth the visit & the money knowing it is going towards a good cause- keeping the animals warm & fed :). Run by lovely, friendly people who are more than happy to answer any questions & make you feel welcome. Highly recommended!

This place is small however John and his wfe were great. We petted the iguana's and held the snakes while the manic giant tortoise shuffled about between our feet. The owners make you feel very welcome, they were lovely to talk to and very knowledgable. They get no help to run this place so everybody who goes to visit means they can help to rescue more animals. If you have kids this place is a must and if like me you are a big kid it is also a must!

Visited this place on our recent holiday to Stalis, Crete based upon the good reviews we read on here.
Its just an amazing wee place! The english couple who run it are so lovely and welcoming. They really encourage kids to have a hands on experience with the many reptiles and marine life they have in their care. The majority of these creatures are rescued from fishermens nets or rehomed due to previous owners no longer being able to look after their reptiles.
Okay its actually a very small attraction but I dont feel that detracted from our experience at all. It made it more personal. My kids had such fun getting acquanited with the gorgeous burmese pythons (which were HUGE!!!!), Blondie the Tortoise, Stephanie the blind sea-turtle, the very magestic and splendid iguanas, the numerous smaller but very friendly and placid snakes. The terrapins were also very sweet and actually surprisingly good fun to watch! They have very sweet personalities and behaviours!!
We visited 3 times during our frotnights stay. You only need to pay an entrance fee once and if you keep the card you can use it again to return as many times as you want during your holiday. We left donations each visit because it cant be cheap looking after all these wonderful animals so well and Im certain the money will be put to very good use.
Anyway....I thoroughly recommend you visit this place. We certainly will if we ever return to Crete.
Keep up the very good work and many thanks for making our visit so enjoyable
