:Lovely hotel but wrong end of town - having been to the port area we soon realised this is the best spot for bars restaurants and beach although this is not the best - however we were mislead regarding beach at the hotel - it is none existant which sentanced us to being at the pool - not good - far too many children - some way too young to be expected to cope with the heat etc but in most cases not well supervised by parents - babies were allowed in the main pool on water wings etc - we were subjected to screaming and crying both night and day. Biggest disappointment was the lack of beach - clever photography suggested a short walk to beach - wrong - the sunbeds and parasols visible from our window and were actually at the waterpark - again another no go area because of the atrocious music - hotel staff were lovely apart from the manager who took great pleasure in balling out one of the outside staff - a really nice lad - at the top of his voice - we felt obliged to express our disgust at the manager's lack of discretion in front of guests - best part was the Derby Bar/Restuarant run by Maria & Nicos in town - who provided an oasis away from the madness of kids and electronic music

Room Tip: Ask for a first floor room - avoid ground floor at all costs

Stayed at the Star Beach Village from the 7th to the 14th September, 2 adults in our mid-twenties. Main points to point out:

Location: The hotel is not located in the main hustle and bustle of the main street of Hersonissos. This is something I actually liked as we could escape for peace and relaxation yet get to all the shops and restaurants in around 5/10 minutes on foot. It was quite a pleasant stroll so full marks for location.

The Hotel: The hotel is lovely and much nicer than most of the hotels in the same area. It has nice landscaping and well kept grounds. It is divided in blocks with three floors each. The ground floor rooms can be accessed from the verandas themselves, something which I did not like, both for concerns of security as well as privacy. Thus we made a request for a room on a higher floor upon booking and were allocated a room on the second floor which we were very happy with.

Having read previous reviews, we did have some concerns about loud music, drunk teenagers and the lot. We did not witness any of this when we were there, but then again we purposely avoided the high season. We were only in the hotel once during the afternoon during which we could hear some music blaring from the hotel's water park directly opposite. but which was drowned out when one closed the veranda doors.

The pool area was clean with ample and super comfortable sunbeds, although other guests insisted on leaving kids' paraphernalia and lilos around/in the pool and as a way of reserving beds overnight. There is also a pool bar which is open till 1am serving cocktails and other beverages, and food during the day.

Room: We booked a room for two people but were allocated one which slept five. It had one main room with a double bed and another self-contained room with three single beds which gave us plenty of space. The beds were comfortable and the linen clean and changed during the course of our week there. The air-conditioning system could be controlled (to some extent) from inside the room, but would not got any lower than 25 degrees.

The veranda was large and breezy and we had distant side views of the sea on one side and of the mountains on the other. The bathroom was spacious but we had problems with the water pressure in the bath which was so strong as to ensure we made a complete mess on the bathroom floor ever time one took a shower. However the room were thoroughly cleaned every day and left spotless.

The room also had a small kitchenette which we did not however make use of. The hotel also had a mini-market which was well stocked and very convenient to buy snacks and ready food to heat in the microwave in the room when day excursions meant we missed our dinner as it opened from 7am to midnight.

Food: We were on half board basis. Breakfast was the same everyday but with ample choice which means one can easily vary his or her own breakfast. Dinner was also ample, but did get kind of repetitive after the first couple of days. The antipasto selection was exactly the same everyday as was the Cretan section and the selection of sauces to to with the pasta dishes. The main courses did vary a bit. I was disappointed not to find fish being served more frequently and when twice it did it tasted like they had been frozen rather than fresh. One problem we had was that breakfast started very late, i.e. 7:30-10am so we also had to miss breakfast when we were being picked up for excursions early. Service at the restaurant was also good with finished plates not left uncollected for long.

All in all I would recommend the hotel to friends and would definitely stay again if I were to go to Crete as the area it is in was the best from the ones we visited.

Room Tip: I would suggest one to ask for a higher room. Even though the blocks have no lift - it is only one f...

no complaints whatsoever..i'm an american maltese who visited with my italian boyfriend whose a chef..we both loved the food bfast which was included as well as paying only 10euro each for a great buffet...which is not usually our style..hence y we have such great compliments...everything was really fresh and tasty...as for room it had a great view and was always clean and tidy...as for location..it really depends what ur into..but supermarkets, shopping and good restaurants and recreational activities were very close indeed..if u stay here a suggestion is to go to Koutouloufari or old hersonissos for some really exquisite greek food, which wasnt very far.overall loved it wish we could've stayed another week!

just returned from two weeks all inclusive stay here this holiday was booked on the advise of Thomas cook that this was a child friendly disable friendly hotel . Thomas cook let us down This resort is neither, granted the hotel /pool /and all inclusive food was fantastic however step outside and you feel like an extra in The Inbetweeners quad bikes vomit beer bottles and a DJ screaming profanities daily does not tick the family friendly boxes. The hotel staff are unfriendly and call the resort “the Jungle “ the only nice employees where the cleaners. Regarding disability access my mum could not get to the Beach, the restaurants and battled the busy road 4 times a day, she also needed help with the lifts and room , which is an appalling let down Thomas Cooks. If you like bungee jumping, foam parties and having your 14 yr. old daughter propositioned daily to join Beach Flirt this is the place for you. I would not recommend this hotel to young families or anyone with a disability. Our complaint is now in the hands of Thomas cook .

Room Tip: all rooms are lovely however the noise from the all night Dj spoils it

We spent one week at the end of July at Star Beach Village on AI basis. We are Antalya luxurious clubs addicted, but this year due to huge increase of prices there, we choose Crete. Of course, we were prepared to have other services here…
Thus, the resort surprised us very pleasant.
Even we received first a horrible room, dirty and with view on the carting races, next day they switch us in a beautiful room with sea view, nice and clean.
The food was awesome! 5 stars by far!. We ate at Cretan restaurant, directly on the beach, which is only for AI guests. There are a lot of choices, fresh and very tasty!
There is only one bar, at the swimming pool (the lobby is open only for winter!!!) and for AI there are just few local drinks. The guys from the bar are nice and polite!
The swimming pool is very crowded but the beach – otherwise small- is nice, with sand and clear water. Yes, you have to pay for towels and umbrella.
The hotel is very good situated, in few minutes you are in downtown; let’s say better a ‘bazaar street’ with shops, terraces, clubs, nice anyway for one or two evenings.
We did a trip too, at Spinalonga and we enjoyed.
May be we’ll come back in Crete 

Went with family of two young children all inclusive for two weeks. Staff very good and helpful. Pools and pool bar very good. Ice creams are next to bar are not part of all inclusive just scoop ice cream from behind bar is - not easy to saynotoyoung children. Studio room very basic and small for four people .loud music from beach 80 yards away starts each night until 8 and two nights a week goes on to 11. Very noisy when having dinner before eight. Food very good and apart from small basic room and loud music I would recommend a visit.

Room Tip: Sea facing rooms and rooms in the main building would be very noisy

Nice hotel, rooms are very basic but since it is located on the beach were all the parties take place it was almost impossible to sleep at night. It was either the loud music or the young guests coming back to their rooms after drinking, making a lot of noise...
