This was a pleasant surprise all round. Given the low price we did have some worries what we would find but it turned into one of the best breaks we've had. Everything is clean and kept clean, the owners couldn't be more helpful, the breakfasts are really good, just watch out for the flowing raki! Really great and going back again next year, could not recommend this highly enough.

Room Tip: all rooms good from what we could see, the higher the better for views, the lower ones for quiet

Stayed here in April 2012 and was one of the first guests of the season. It's about ten minutes walk down Hersonnissos Town and ten minutes walk up to Koutouloumaris, which is a much more traditional village.

Apartment was clean with a good kitchenette and nice bathroom. Simple decor in greek blue and white.

Owners really nice and helpful with a lovely young family.

This is not a place for someone who has difficultly with walking as the walk up hill can be quite steep and there are lots of steps within the complex.

I had a really lovely week here and would go again.

We arrived quite late around 11.30pm on the 8th of May, and we were greeted by Kostas who gave us our key, his mobile number incase we needed anything and a couple of Raki's! We had room 23, it had everything we needed, a large bed with nice clean sheets, separate kitchen area with plates, wine glasses, cutlery, hob, really cold fridge and little freezer and a table with chairs. The bathroom is very small and the shower tends to spray all over the floor but there's a drain in the floor so no big deal, and it was very clean. Yes the apartments are basic, but very clean and we had the bed changed once while we were there. I had emailed about 2 or 3 months previously requesting a balcony, but unfortunately we didn't get one, we did however have a lovely little courtyard area to sit at with table and chairs, and it was lovely sitting here at night(on the nights I can remember..!). The next day we seen the villas in daylight and were not disappointed, the pool is very clean, deep and there are lots of sun loungers, it all feels quite private and very relaxing even though it's adjacent to the bar, The Fat Frog. The Fat Frog is reasonable for drinks, they have a good selection and there was always sports on the flat screen tv if you're a fan. The villas are located halfway between Hersonissos main strip downhill and 5 minutes walk uphill are the villages of Koutouloufari and Piskipiano, have to say we preferred Koutouloufari, more restaurants and it's like something from a painting at night when it's all lit up! Found prices to be really reasonable too. Downhill Hersonissos main area is quite busy, would probably be too busy to be enjoyable in high season, but there are a lot of nice restaurants looking over the sea to stop and have a drink, and there is a nice litle harbour and church near the end of the strip, also lots of good shops, the beaches here aren't very nice, but if you keep walking past the church and harbour on the main strip you will come across much nicer ones, we actually found a private little sandy beach about a 25 minute walk away, past the Creta Maris Hotel which was like something from the caribbean! On our second night Kostas and Maria held a souvlaki BBQ night and we went along intending to stay for a couple of drinks then head uphill but that didn't happen as it was such a good night, the food was lovely and they arranged all the tables so you could speak to everyone else and we ended up meeting a few nice couples and drinking raki til about 4am, Bill the barman is lovely and very interesting to speak to and always on hand wih shots of Raki, and Kostas and Maria couldn't be nicer, they are a young couple and joined in with the shots and made everyone feel welcome, if the souvlaki night is offered when you're there, go to it! We lay by the pool a few times and it's a little suntrap, the pool is cold when you first go in but really nice after a day sunbathing. I would definitely recommend a day trip to Agios Nikolaos, it has a beautiful lake, and we were lucky enough to be there when the Olympic Torch was being lit! One thing I would say is, the room key is a power-saving fob which you stick in the wall and it powers up the electricity, so you can't charge your camera/phone when out and about as without the room key in the wall there's no electricity. We didn't need air conditoning, but you definitely will in a few weeks, we were lucky, the weather was in the late twenties everyday, no rain. I didn't think mosquitos would be a problem, but on the 6th day I was bitten and had 12 bites on one leg by the time I got home, definitely bring repellent! There are also lots of gorgeous cats in Crete if you're a cat-lover :) Overall I would definitely stay here again, and recommend the Papadakis Villas to friends, it really is the ideal location, far enough away from the busy strip, but close enough to be convenient, and close to the beautiful villages uphill.

Room Tip: Ask for a balcony as these have more privacy.

Just got back from two weeks in Hersonissos staying at Papadakis Villas. We had read all the fantastic reviews before booking the trip and understood we were going to be staying in a clean, basic apartment with a pool and bar/restaurant. When we arrived we started talking to a family who were waiting for their transfer to take them home and they told us how gutted they were that they had only booked a week and that the first thing they will be doing when they get home is to book a two week stay at the apartments for next year.
We were met By Kostas, Maria and Bill and they were everything you've read about in the other reviews. They are so much fun and really welcoming, they make sure you have everything you need and give advise and make arrangements for you when you need it. The Fat Frog bar is a fantastic place to end the night, the local beer is served in icey glasses and the locally made Raki is the best on the Island.
The rooms are clean and nicely furnished. You get a two ring hob and the utensils you'll need if you want a home cooked meal, there is a big fridge and a kettle too. The beds are very comfortable and the bathroom is a wet room design with a shower. The apartment complex has flower beds, hanging baskets and climbing flowers and it looks very Greek against the whitewashed walls, the blue painted wood and terracotta tiles.
We met people who were on their second, third and even fourth visit to the Papadakis Villas and we are going to be joining them when we return next September. It was the most relaxed two weeks we have spent on any holiday and we had so much fun that we cannot wait to return.

Beautiful location surrounded by Olive Groves.

The apartments themselves were simple and nicely styled to give a Greek village feel, no high rise here, strictly 2 story. The pool is small but a great depth. You are only 5-10 minute walk down the road from the shops and a busy beach front full of bars and restaurants, but you could be a million miles away as these apartments are in a peaceful countryside location. In the evenings or night walk for 10 minutes up the hill past olive groves and some pretty nice villas and you will arrive in a stunning Cretan Village, with a some lovely restaurants and a few laid back bars.

The owners of the apartments Kostas and Maria and the rest of their staff were so nice, friendly and they couldn't do enough for you. We also had lunch here most days and the food was delicious, simple ingredients beautifully made, I can still taste the Greek fruit salad that Maria made as I am typing this!! Low cost food and drinks but great quality.

The rooms are a decent size, we stayed in a studio apartment. If you want to experience Crete then stay here.

If you want to stay in soulless mass tourist accommodation with lots of noise and busyness go elsewhere as the Papadakis Apartments are peaceful, tranquil and relaxing.

After reading the reviews on this site i booked the holiday to stay here, i was extremely excited about it after there arent many bad reviews about this apartment - However when i got here at 11 oclock at night i was extremely disappointed!

First thoughts of the hotel from the outside was abit grubby but i thought id give it a chance so we went in the fat frog to get the keys- the man was extremely friendly and helpful this has to be said as this was the only good point.

We got shown to our room - this was suppost to be a self catering apartment however this is not what we got! It was basically a room with a tiny toilet and shower in (the shower not being even big enough to stand in!) the room was dark n gloomy - we never even had a balcony!

There was also mosquitos flying round everywhere as the window had been left open! I then refused to my husband that i would stay here and wanted to leave immediately! however the time was now 2 in the morning and there would be nowhere open.

After trying to give it a chance and going to get in the bed i peeled back the quilt and found hairs in the bed! not only that the sheet was see through and i could see the blue mattress through the sheet (it never even had a mattress protector) there was a gap down the side of the bed also that was filled with dirt and cobwebs!

This was the last straw i immediately got on my iphone and booked another hotel! i didnt care what the price was i couldnt stay there! i tried to get to sleep but refused to get changed into shorts or tshirt. I finally got to sleep at 4 oclock and then couldnt sleep as there was dogs barking all night, chickens, and i could also hear the neighbours in another room having a wee!!
7oclock i woke up packed my things and left! i payed to stay here for a week but there wasnt any chance of that! We went and stayed in the cretan malia park hotel (which was like staying in buckingham palace compared)

Im really sorry to write such a bad review the people sound very nice but trip advisor was the only thing that made me book this apartment and i just think people should know what its like truthfully before they go. I didnt pay much for this apartment but i now know why - just remember you get what you pay for - but even still i still think this is the worse accommodation ive ever stayed in, and i go away 2 times a year.

Im sorry to write this i just think people should hear about my experience as if this was on here already it would make me think twice about booking it!

Dear Guest,
I never had the chance to meet you as you left the same night you arrived and I have to say we were terribly worried as you never let us know that you were leaving the complex. We even called the police as our responsibility for the safe stay of our guests is a priority in Papadakis Villas. We'd really appreciated if you told us about your decision. We are pleased to make our guests feel welcome and we would do everything in our power to help you upgrade your stay in Crete.
Thank you for mentioning the friendliness of our staff but there are things about the apartment I would like to share our point of view.It is very clear in our site and everywhere else there is a description of the complex that this is a 3* self catering accomodation. We have never advertised it as a luxury hotel or buckingham palace and none of the reviews says anything like that. The most common words used in the reviews are "basic" and "clean" which in my opinion reflect the reality.
I am suprised you say it's a dark room as it is on the top floor with windows all around it. You would had seen it your self if you'd stayed till the morning. There are dogs and chickens, yes, we are not located in the center. There is lots of countryside around us and a lovely view to the mountain and the sea from the balcony. The blue mattress you've mentioned is new and there is no mattress protector because we had to make a special order for this XL double bed. Our see through-as you said- sheets are 100 per cent cotton due to our green orientated philosophie.
Overall I have to say that all comments are taken under consideration for our constant development and progress. We are really sorry if we didn't meet your expectations and we hope we didn't let you down as a country or an island which has a long history in tourism and thousands of different choises for all kinds of budgets.
With respect, the manager of the hotel.
