“Fantastic.............................. Again!!!”
Reviewed September 4, 2009

There is nothing to say apart from this was my second time there and was better than the first. The apartments are so clean and fresh, the whole place is clean fresh happy and welcoming. Could not ask for a better holiday.

The Food was lovely. George and Maria know so well how to make people feel welcome.

I would recommend this to anyone whether single or a family I have been with family and alone now and will be back next year

I always use Trip Advisor before booking a holiday but have never left a review before, however my boyfriend and I have just returned from the Palatia and I felt that I had to leave some feedback as it is so well deserved.
We booked these apartments following a recommendation from a friend and we were not disappointed - we had a fantasic holiday.
The room was spacious and very clean and we had a lovely view from our balcony. The grounds are beautiful and well maintained as is the pool area (where we spent a lot of time). However, all of this aside, what makes this place a gem are George and Maria, their family and staff. They all work so hard to make your holiday enjoyable and treat you with such warmth and friendliness.
Crete is a beautiful island with such a fantastic history. We took two trips (we were only these for a week unfortunately) - Spinolonga Island and Knossos palace - both excellent places to visit.
The Palatia is in an great location with New Hersonissos just down the hill and Old Hersonissos (gorgeous little village) up the hill. Best of both worlds. Personally we were not that keen on New Hersonissos, although nice, it was a little too 'touristy' for us. The villages of Piskopiano and Koutouloufari were also close by - traditional greek villages with some great Tavernas and a very laid back and relaxed atmosphere - loved both of these places.
I would like to comment on the prices at the Palatia. As George has said in his response below, it is very unfair to compare hotel prices to those in the supermarket and if you did so in the UK then I am sure that you would find that the difference would be even greater! We found the prices at the Palatia to be very competative with those in the surrounding villages (evidence of this is the amount of time we spent at the Palatia bar!)
Finally I would like to say thank you again to George, Maria and all at the Palatia for a wonderful holiday and I hope we will be back one day.

We stayed here for a week and were very pleased with our apartments (we had 2 studios, as we are a large family of 2 adults and 4 teenagers). The apartments were clean and had a great view of the sea and mountains. They were basic but had what we needed for a self catering break (a fridge, 2 ring cooker, kettle etc). We would walk to the local spar shop about 10 minutes away to get supplies, as food and drink at the Palatia Village were expensive when catering for 6 people. At Palatia a glass of coke would cost 2 euros, a large bottle of water 1 euro, but in the spar you could get a large bottle of coke for just over a euro, and 6 bottles of the same water for 1.5 euros. We would eat at the local restaurants down in the town along the sea front as these were much cheaper, and the locals were very welcoming. The Acropollis restaurant was very good and gave us the first drink free with our meal every night, and some dishes there were only 5 Euros. The Balconi restaurant next to it, also did lovely large pizzas for 5 euros with a free coke. It all helps if there are a lot of you and are on a budget. Star Beach is also worth a look as the beach is much better there. The beaches near the apartment were a good 20 minutes walk, and were disappointing.Very rocky, and not good for swimming.
Weather was sunny and hot every day. Beware air-con in rooms is an additional cost of 8 euros a day, and it is difficult to sleep with your windows open because of the noise of the crickets in the surrounding trees. They are very noisy from sunrise all day but you get used to it. Apparently, they are a problem all over Greece in July and August.
The pool was very clean and not too busy most of the time. The grounds of the Palatia were well kept and very pretty. Apartments cleaned almost daily. There are a lot of cats around, but they do not bother you unless you start to feed them.
This is a family run business, and they work very hard to ensure everyone has an enjoyable holiday.
We hired a quad bike for a few days (30 euros a day with full insurance). This gave us the opportunity to visit the local greek villages up in the mountains. They are very pretty, especially in the evening when the taverns are lit up and you get the real greek atmosphere.
On the whole Palatia Village is a pleasant place to stay, and you make the most of what it and the surrounding area has to offer.

Dear Guest,

Me and my family wish to thank you very much for your kind words. It makes us feel much better knowing we are doing a good job.

I like to make a little correction in your comments though, if i may.

The prices that you compare are the Super Market prices in the town and the Bar - Restaurant prices in the apartments. I think there is no point there, since its logic when you buy from the super market to be cheaper.

We have tried hard this year to keep our prices the same as we have the last years even if it costs us more. On the other hand we have redused our rent to the Travel Agents more than 20%, there is a lot of last minute offers, and many people are benefit from the discounts we do.

Its fair also to mention that arround our pool the sunbeds and umbrellas are free of charge, wich does not happen to many other places of this category in our area.

I love BBQ and i trop one almost every week, its nice that you had a good time that night, and that you had seconds again and again. I think its also fair to mention that the price was only 10 euro per person in a self service buffet with pork chops, chicken, sausages burgers salads etc.

The economic crise effects us all, i think we ll stay calm and try to do our best for the future. We are looking forward to seeing you again when the crise is over.

Best regards

George Kolivakis

The vast majority of reviews we studied on this hotel were extremely positive, and its easy to see why.
Guests arrive year after year to this little gem of a hotel, but the clientelle these days are mainly single sex groups from Holland, here for the noisy discos and bars on the sea front, due to this fact, I wouldn't advise families with young children to visit.
On a positive note, as the groups have been making merry until the early hours, they don't surface until after lunch, so the pool is very quite during the morning.

It is well documented that the hotel is located a good distance from the shops and sea front, but the 500m and 1000m mentioned are grossly underestimated, more like 1200m and 2000m, it is a hell of a walk and even worse coming back when its all uphill.
Take your time though and it can be quite pleasant. A taxi ride for this trip is 7 Euros which is very expensive.

The hotel itself is meticulously clean and the grounds are immaculate, George and his staff will go out of their way to make your stay an enjoyable one.
Hot water comes on a first come, first served basis, so don't be surprised if your shower runs cold!
We tended to have a sink wash in the morning, then a shower at the end of the day, this way hot water was always available..

We attended a barbecue on one evening, an absolute treat, especialy seconds!
What made it for us though was when George sat with us and shared a bottle of homemade ouzo, it was superb!

I hope Palatia Village survives the economic crisis, the food and drink prices at the bar are a good 20% higher than the sea front bars and I'm not sure how much longer guests will put up with this price difference. Had the prices been similar, we would have eaten at the hotel every day.

I would highly recommend Palatia Apartments to anyone looking for great hospitality, beautiful views and surroundings and comfortable apartments.

I stayed at the apartments with three female friends and we didn't want to leave. George and family looked after us tremendously, we felt relaxed and safe at all times. My friend and I were originally placed in a ground floor apartment away from our friends but we were moved to the lovely apartment 5 when we requested. I really can't stress how accommodating they were.

We will definately return, wish I was still there now.
