Just back from a week at the Grand, All Inclusive. Staff are truly wonderful and hard working. Food varied from average to good. Our one night at the Aegean restaurant was excellent, very witty waiters and for once good food.
No barbecue night when we were there and the only entertainment was a Magic show which was different and for us entertaining, unless you count the mini disco which due to the weather started on two nights in the main lounge at 2045 and was still going at 2135. Given the all inclusive ended at 2200 this is not acceptable and left 40 adults standing outside the louge. We were told no seat no drink . It is a joke there werent any seats left and we expect better of Jet2 Holidays .com sending guests on an all inclusive basis to this place.
It was our first experience of a Jet2 Holidays dot com package and may well be our last one.Thank you to the Olympic rep at the airport who gave us good advice after our return flight was delayed due to Greek air trafdfic control strikes.
All inclusive guests were treated as second class citizens , unable to get a snack or coffee during the day from the main snack bar without paying. You could walk up the steep inclines to the fun pool in the pouring rain where most of the seats were open to the weather and get a snack there. No thank you very much

Having travelled the world for over 40 years this place has some of the best staff I have ever encountered but we would say NO thank you very much and recommend giving this Grand a body swerve. We would question why British holidaymakers would go to Greece when the workers strike at will knowing they will harm the very people who are trying to aid the country.

Well the hotel was fantastic and the staff very helpful nothing too much trouble. The accommodation was well furnished and clean.

We stayed form the 27 September to 4 October. We were all inclusive and the food was good, as there was a fair selection. You could also go to the snack area if you felt peckish.

The hotel offerd an barbecue night which included entertainment., this was 7 Euros each. It was well worth it as the Greek night sold via the rep was 46 Euros and they only provided wine and no soft drinks at the Greek night and no beer. The barbecue had the lot.

I stayed with two of my mates, but this is ideal for a family, as they would benefit from the entertainment provided and food provided for the children.

You also are booked in the two restaurants on certain nights, being the Greek Restaurant and the Italian Pizza style restaurant.

Just to conclude, this hotel is an ideal place to stay.

Stayed a week at the Grand ( A/I ) with the family late September 2011, had read the reviews on TripAdvisor and had a few concerns regarding the food, some said it was cold and the fact that the hotel was built on a sloping site and one of the party was pregnant.
However any concerns we had prior to our stay were quickly forgotten on arrival, the rooms we had 1034 1031 1032 were excellent, overlooking the quiet pool with great views out to sea.
The fact the hotel was on a slope did not matter as the hotel have cars to take clients up and down to their rooms if required.
The food was first class with a good varied selection and always hot, there was also a good selection wines to choose from with meals.
We found all the staff helpful and friendly, the bar staff in particular would come to your table before 10pm and ask if you wanted another drink.
I don't know what it is like in peak weeks but we had no problem finding sun beds or getting served.
Overall we had a great week and enjoyed our stay and would go again.
One negative point but is nothing to do with the hotel,to get to the beach you have to cross the main road and it is busy, there is a subway nearby but if you have mobility problems there are steps up and down, plus if it has been raining it floods.

Room Tip: We had the superior rooms with sea view as stated above.

Just got back after a relaxing stayAI at The Grand. The strengths of this hotel are the staff, the food and the cleanliness of the whole complex. We had no problem getting drinks at any time within the specified period. The waiter knew what we wanted and delivered them. Perhaps it is different in the high season. The main problem is the number of guests who can't read even if notices are in several languages! The booklet you are given tells about not reserving sun beds and under 16's not to use the relaxing pool but these are blatently ignored- and it's not the Brits ! Saying that the signs near the pools do need to be more prominent and in French and German. On one day it rained for about 10 minutes and we all scattered indoors apart from one sad middle aged man who doggedly sat under his towel rather than risk his sun lounger!!You could get a sunbed at any time of day! There were too many groups of young Europeans here being rather loud. Skinny dipping at 3 in the morning was not what I wanted to see. If you have room 1016 it is very comfy witha good view but poor air conditioning. We asked for a fan after it had been checked but it was not possible. If we had been there in the high season we would have moved rooms. Nice hotel but wouldn't return to that area of Crete as was very tatty round the beach areas.Think rundown Rhyl/Blackpool.We enjoyed our rest but it could have been better.

Room Tip: Ask for a room overlooking relaxing pool- not too bad a climb

Just got back from a week at the Grand Hotel with a friend. Thought the hotel was lovely; kept well and most of the staff were friendly. The room we had was of a very good standard, especially impressed with the bathroom/shower. There are three different pools, the main one, adults only and kids, all very nice. Views from the hotel were great, over-looking the ocean and mountains. The beach is about a 10min walk away (although it's nothing special), shops are also down that way. We didn't go for the big nightlife scene however once there we decided to have a look and turned out to be a lot of fun; 5min taxi drive (or 25min walk) into Hersonissos and the other way is Malia which is a bit further. You can also find many resturants in both places too. We were all inclusive and thought the food was very good. Very wide selection and varied quite a bit during the week. They also have two more resturants within the hotel, Greek and Italien. I would highly recommend the Greek resturant. Great food, great service and great atmosphere. If you are all inclusive this is included in your price. We didnt have the best of weather, most days were quite cloudy and it even rained one day! So would prehaps recommend going a couple of weeks earlier to ensure it is sunny all the time.
A couple of not so good things about the hotel: One plug in the room proved to be a pain! All inclusive finishes at 10pm, so there is a rush to the bar just before and we thought this is quite early compared to other hotels we have visited. The hotel entertainment was truely awful! Sometimes it was so bad it was funny, other times it was just plain bad! We also found that the waiters/waitresses and reception staff were much friendlier than the entertainment staff. The entertainment staff seemed to pick who they wanted to talk to and ignore everyone else? One last thing is the hotel is built on the side of a hill. This mean't exceptional views however depending on where your room is it may involve a lot of walking up and down hills, however the hotel does provide a car to give you a lift if you have difficulty so I wouldn't let you it put you off. Overall though the hotel was great and I would recommend it, I would also be happy to go back.

Room Tip: If you want a nice view ask for a room by the main pool on the 2nd floor.

Well 2 weeks Al. Ive read most of the reports from fellow travellers and must agree with the majority.
We always ask at Thomas Cook when we book what the rooms have to accomodate us eg kettle we took our kettel nothing like waking up to a cup of Nescafe and looking out in to the sea view, Ha in my wisdom I wanted a sea view I got one, Those of you who know the Grand our room was 1701 YES YES the very top. I didnt mind though as Alex the taxi man always asked us what time we wanted picking up to take us down to the lower level.
We had 2 weeks of pure fun.
We did not take trips with the Tour company we went with, as we found them very expensive. We went out and about every day walking bus trips and doing our own thing, getting lost walking from the Hotel to Malia OMG, We caught a bus back.
The Al. yes it did stop at 10pm but found that if you asked for a bottle of wine from the resturant they gave you one, So off up to the Lobby bar to finish off a good night.
Pool bar 10am until 6pm Pool bar 7pm till 10pm Wine bar. The girls who run that bar were wonderful, we had many a laugh with them.
No probs trying to get a sun bed.
The beds in our room, I did ask for a soft matress haha I got a blanket on my bed, I asked again haha I got another blanket on my bed.
Don't pull the plug out the bath the water flows to quick and it spurts out in to the bathroom floor that was funny seeing bubbles in the middle of the bath room floor, Tip let the water out gently 1/2 pull the plug. Instant hot water sweet.
The staff are a credit to this hotel..

Room Tip: Great view 1701 up wards Tennis courts .. Pool view 100 up wards.

Just back from a week AI at The Grand. Firstly I must stress that we enjoyed our stay however you return to excellent hotels not merely fairly good ones and the Grand falls into the latter catagory.
You know all about the 10pm finish to AI and the staff going AWOL after 9.30 to ensure that is adhered to, suffice to say prevoius reviews about that are accurate.
What did surprise me was the relative mediocrity of the food in the main restaurant. Little variation, few local dishes, little quality seafood and generally cheaper cuts of meat seemed to tie in with no drinks after 9.30 mentality. We spoke to a few staff and it was clear that management dictated a hard line policy,Scrooge style. It's a shame really because this hotel has many good points.I would suggest that this hotel either embraces AI or leaves it alone the current format isn't in keeping with other AI's I've used ..in fact it's the bottom of the pile, admittedly of a strong list.
