I was nervous about this holiday because I booked it on line friday 25th (I ususally use a travel agent) and flew out early morning Tuesday 29th. Luckily I did not read any reviews before otherwise I may not have gone but I need not have worried.

We arrived late evening to a warm welcome. The 'apartment' was one of two on the lower floor (apartments generally arranged in a two up two down style) it was spacious, bright and clean. It consists of a bedroom furnished with a double and single bed TV etc, bathroom and second sleep area with kitchenette. The only disappointment for me was the lack of a hair dryer and the hot water never really got hot! However when you have sunburn the water was plenty hot enough!! The air conditioning too is at an extra charge of 7euros a day but if you open the inner doors the temperature is pleasantly ambient.

Some complain about the AL service but the company I booked it from did clearly state the times of availability (In our experience AL in Europe does sometimes have time limits). The food was good, fresh with a choice of hot or cold .. however if some piggy (and there is always one or two!) piles their plate high you can wait for your choice. The local beer is not that great on draft but the tea coffee soft drinks are freely available. cocktails or other beers are at an extra cost but no more than in any of the local bars.

The swiimming pools is a fair size, clean and between 0.9m and 2.0m with a seperate kiddies pool. Sunbeds and umbrellas are again clean and in good order. There is a programme of activities, not fabulous but you can choose from yoga, water aerobics, jogging, pilates are a few. Some hotel descriptions include gym and conference facilities but we did not find these so these are probably out of date.

Hersonissos new town is just a short walk about 10 -15 minutes down the hill. It is a lively little place with many bars, resturants and shops including super markets. The beach is just behind these and is a nice place to relax and unwind. Sunbeds and umbrellas are available for hire at about 6 euros for two. Some hotels such as Star Beach allow access to their facilities for a similar price.. nice pool, nice bars, water sports but probably more for the young. At this hotel about once a week has a late night open air clubbing style beach party.

Getting out and about in Crete from this hotel was easy. At the bottom of the hill is the local bus stop, the service runs every half hour in each direction. A trip to Iraklio cots about 4 euros each way. It is comfortable and air conditioned but probably the best way to see the island is to hire a car, quad or scooter. Knossis and the venetian port can be easily visited by the independent traveller.

The only draw back is the hill, although there is a free shuttle service 3 times daily to and from the hotel (the friendly manager provides this service) there is no shade during the day so walking back up provides a challenge! The solution is to turn left and visit the old town instead! It is a good half hours walk away through 2 other villages but there are lovely posh resturants, bars and traditional shops along the way. All open late into the night. On monday night in old Hersonissos village square there is free Cretan dance demostration and participation is encouraged! Good fun and well worth the walk!

Overall this was a good value holiday, a few niggles but a we only paid £254 each for flight, hotel, transfers and baggage so no complaints really. Would I recommend this hotel and location .. Yes It is probably a 3star plus and not a four therefore beware of travel agents who charge 4star prices. The staff are fiendly and helpful but some newer recruits donot speak english well but this is similar through out Crete. Nice place to start exploring Crete. I would return.

me and my partner have just returned from sunshine village! we found it lovely did read reviews before going and with every review sight there is good and bad but when we arrived late at night we found the rooms massive and very clean, food was good were not picky but could make a meal out of anything!also spoke to several other couples who said they also read reviews and were fearing the worst but they agreed it was defiantly not as described. Breakfasts, lunch and dinner was nice! yes there was limited drinks such as ouzo, brandy and raki but there was plenty of soft drinks and teas and coffees on offer, we found the beer was nice! pool was big clean and had a very good deep end! yes there was a hill down to the town but it does state that in all descriptions of the hotel but we managed it everyday and there was a bus shuttle that did go every morning and afternoon no fail even if there was no passenger wanting to go to town the man still went! the town was good for shopping, lovely place plenty todo and see we went on a road train ride, boat trip and hired a quad bike for 40 Euro for 2 days had so much fun on that exploring the different towns! the beaches were lush, plenty todo down star beach. overall was good holiday and would defiantly go back to sunshine village!

After booking our holiday at Sunshine Village Apts,we then read the reports on Trip Advisor,we were then quite worried. Thankfully our fears turned out to be totally unfounded. When we arrived(in the early hours of the morning) the staff were welcoming, friendly and informative(there was even a salad to be found in the fridge in our room in case we were hungry). The friendliness of the staff continued throughout our holiday. We cannot thank Nikos,Yannis and Maria enough for a brilliant holiday. We arrived as strangers and we left as friends,we hope to see them all again.

After a long day travelling we (4 adults and my 2 children 12 year old and 14 month old )arrived about 22.30 to be told that the restaurant closed at 21.30 and that no food was available not even a sandwich. We were told we could order a pizza at our expense and we would be allowed a welcome drink. Watered down beer and a mixture of soft drinks. This is no way a family hotel as the food was not suitable for our children my 12 year old had toast or plain buns for breakfast and for our 14 month had to get weetabix from the mini-market in the town. I was also ripped off with bottled water at the hotel 1.50 euros for a 1.5 lt bottle at mini market 1.39 euros for 6 yes 6 1.5 lt bottles. Bedding not changed in the 2 weeks we stayed. Food was awful same things nearley everyday. what wasn`t eaten then it was put out for snacks at the pool bar. We got fed up of buns and pasta and potatoes in a oily mush. No entertainment at night. Hotel receptionist was horrible to my 12 year old he was so bored that he would sit in the lobby and watch music on tv. He went to get a drink and when he returned the receptionist had changed channels to a greek channel and hid the remote. Crete is a lovely place but make sure you stay away from this hotel. I kept saying its more like fawlty towers. This is a 2* hotel at a push. The best thing was when the coach came to pick us up. Stay away from sunshine village. You have been warned.

This is my 3rd time here at sunshine village, the hotel is outstanding,it is very friendly and helpful.
The manager is very friendly and helpful.he is always available and is keen to answer any queries and if you have any problems,he sorts them out quickly
The food is excellent, there is a lot of variety and it changes daily.
The hotel is on a steep hill, the view is stunning and the sunsets in the evening are amazing.
The taxi service is cheap, the beach and shops are nearby.
The maids come in daily, the apartments are spotlessly clean
I have been twice with friends and once on my own.
i have always been made to feel very welcome.
i would highly recommend this hotel for your holidays
