I went to Annabelle Village with my husband & 11 year old son at the beginning of August 2011 for 2 weeks. We chose this hotel as it was advertised as a 5*, it was very clear when we got to our room that it was'nt. I have stayed in hotels all over the world & the family room we had although big enough was no way 5* standard, it was no more than 3*, The balony was tiny & only had a small table & 2 chairs so we could'nt sit out of an evening as a family which we like to do. There was air con & a fridge but other than that the rooms are very basic.
Annabelle Village is a mainly all inclusive hotel but we went half board & seemed to get much better service. It's buffet style meals which can be a bit uncivilised at times but as we were half board we could order our drinks & have them brought to our table. All inclusive guests have to get their own. The variety & standard of food however was excellent. Plenty to choose from & great for kids. Personally we would have prefered waiter service which i would expect when paying for a 5* hotel but it was'nt as bad as other buffet style hotels i have been too.
A great choice of pools, we especially enjoyed the pool near the beach where my son played the water basketball every day. The main grumble was that selfish guests reserved sunbeds & this was not stopped by the hotel staff. One morning I got up early & went to this pool, nearly all the beds had towels on but i was the only person at the pool for nearly an hour. Some people did'nt turn up for over 2 hours. This sort of behaviour makes me so angry as it spoills what should be an enjoyable time. The animation team as a lot of other reviews have said were outstanding, the pool activities were great to watch even if you did'nt participate & the Annabelle Olympics were an absolute scream! Must mention Joshua who gained more & more injuries & bandages as each day passed but still continued to give 100%.
There is evening entertainment from the animation team down near the beach but we spent our evenings at the lobby bar. Fantastic service from Maria who looked after our every need & taught us some greek too. All inclusive guests had to get there drinks from the bar but as half boarders we got service at our table & had free bowls of snacks with our drinks which was a nice touch that all inclusive guests did'nt get.
On the whole we had a good holiday but I would say this hotel is no more than a 4* & the rooms no more than 3*. The plus for us was that Brits were in the minority, there were more Russians, Italians, Germans & other european nationals which gave it a more continental feel which was good.
The issue with reseving sunbeds needs to be addressed as this definately got worse as our holiday went on & if the hotel wants to present itself as 4/5* it needs to encourage its guests to act more civilised.
Would have prefered waiter service in the restaurant & they also need to be stricter with the dress code. There is a dress code for the evening meal but lots of people ignored this. It lowers the tone if people do not follow the dress code & it is much nicer when people make the effort to dress for dinner.
Its not a bad hotel & is great for families. We would'nt go back but we have never gone back to the same place twice as we like to try new places.
