We have just returned (22/9/2011) from a week's holiday at the King Minos Palace Hotel. It is a hotel worthy of if its star rating. The hotel maintains a very high standard in its cleanliness, efficiency and professionalism. We had a room (102) which opened out on to a little garden, with olive and lemon trees. Only thing to mention regarding the room, pillows are very small and you may wish to ask Reception for another one. The pool area is beautifully kept, and the swimming pool is great for dipping in to cool down, as well as doing lengths :) The Reception staff were friendly and polite and brilliant, right from checking in, answering questions, providing information on the area and checking out. We enjoyed the buffet breakfast and the variety of choices on the evening buffet. The staff are a little too eager though, to clear your empty plates. A range of evening entertainment, including quizes, Greek evenings and Brazilian dancers (they were the most impressive act). The hotel have got it right, with the team they have in place. They are so friendly and make you feel so welcome throughout your stay. The animation team is fun and not pushy. Star Beach is only a 10 minute walk away, ideal for all ages and hosts many watersports activities. On the right of Star Beach, if you continue along the road you will come across other smaller quiet beaches. You must visit the little villages of Old Hersonissos, Piskipiano and Koutouloufari (go to Espero's Taverna - Fab), so quaint and pretty with little bars and tavernas, as well as gift shops. Nice to visit in the day or at night. They are based next to each and about a 30 minute walk from the hotel. We would highly recommend this hotel - Rach and John.

Room Tip: Garden view room, on ground level. Room 102, shared the garden with two other rooms. Not to far to...

Just arrived home from staying in this hotel and would recommend to anyone interested in staying in Hersonissis. Hotel is on a hill so it takes longer to walk back from the heart of Hersonissis to the hotel. The staff are very friendly, helpful and go out of their way to make sure you enjoy yourself. The cicadas are noisy but you do get used to them. The food is very varied but they do offer a big selection. Price wise, water is very cheap in the local supermaket (6 litre bottles for 1.19 Euros) but most food and drinks are roughly very similar to our prices here.

Room Tip: Garden rooms facing the pool seem to be the best although you do not get a balcony to hang out your...

From the first time we came here (same time last year), me and my family adored the place. The staff remembered us from our trip before, even commenting on things we had forgotted (our fantasy football score for a game we had going the year before!). The rooms are really nice, everything you expect from a tropical holiday. And what can i say about the food... it was absolutely delicious! There was a dish to suit everyone, and it changed each night, chinese, greek, italian etc. There is nothing bad I can say about this hotel, and after the second visit, i have chosen it as the perfect place to go on holiday next year with the girls... nothing better than knowing where all the local hotspots are!

Room Tip: We had a garden view both times, looking over the pool. It was gorgeous.

We have just returned from a lovely 1 week stay. This is a great place - all the staff were welcoming, warm and very friendly for our whole stay and this kind of service will be missed. The food was excellent and there was plenty of choice for breakfast and dinner with the opportunity to taste many delicious greek dishes too. Breakfast finished at 9.30 - when on holiday it would be nice for this to be extended to atleast 10.30 to get that rare "not at work" lie in. The Tuesday night bar b q provided an even more spectacular array of foods as well as greek music and some laughs from the staff ( you are asked to pay 13 euros pp extra for this evening). The snack bar menu was delicious and good value for money at lunchtimes although the days have gone where eating and drinking in Greece is cheaper than many other holiday destinations. The hotel and the gardens are kept beautifully and the pool is a good size - just beware the early morning to dusk sunbed hoggers (even though they were only occupied by towels for several hours!!!!). The animation team were fantasitic and provided a great variety of acitivities for people of all ages - we were free to take it or leave it with no pressure. Beware the mating season of the cricket type creatures (please excuse my ignorance as never did find out their name) which inhabit the trees - they are noisy, so if you're a light sleeper and don't want to wake up too early in the morning take some ear plugs. You will get used to them though. Our room was small but adequate although the bathroom showers could be improved. Our air conditioning didn't work well but we found out from other holiday makers that this could have been remedied quickly. All in all, this is a fantastic hotel with amazing staff and we would definitely recommend it and hope to return one day.

Just spent 2 weeks at this hotel. The hotel is away from the hullabaloo of Hersonisos which is good. The hotel is clean; the staff are friendly and helpful. Any problems were resolved by the Front of House Manager straight away.

The buffet at breakfast and dinner was plentiful, varied and constantly replenished. There was at least one dish for everyone to be kept happy, with the jewel in the crown being the Cretan cuisine corner and in particular the rice pudding. The waiting staff and the chefs were helpful at all times and worked with a genuine smile on their faces.

Lunch in the Pool Bar was reasonably prices with omelettes starting at €3.50 and most expensive dishes being €7.00, the drinks on the other hand were on the steep side with €2.30 for a small bottle of coke and €1.50 for a small bottle of water being on the steep side.

The swimming pool was a good size, though the shallow end was 1.20m, dropping to 2.00m quite quickly. There were sufficient sunbeds located around the pool.
The rooms were a good size, kept clean though the A/C was not of adequate strength, especially as the A/C was switched off from around 10.00am through to 3.00pm.

If you are going with a tour operator, do not book excursions with them go into the town and you will save a small fortune. Thomson wanted €55 for a trip to Spinalonga, whilst the tour shops in town offered this for €32, and a trip to West Crete was on offer for €38 whilst Thomson wanted €110.

TIP 1 (for the location): in Heraklion, at the aeroport, on the right, as U leave the aeroport building behind, take the bus to Hersonisos (~3euro/person), up to bus station Ktel no. 24. Get off and take the small alley and then turn LEFT! Go up straight 200m and you'll find the hotel!

I liked this hotel very much, it is located a bit far from the center of Hersonosos, a very noisy small town in Crete. You can choose to stay in the hotel or in the bungalows. It provides a good quality of everything: cleaness, a great variety of food (HB only, food mainly Greek!), helpful staff, quiet place - great conditions for sleeping, quick access to other towns and places by bus. There is a super market close to the hotel.

The only minus of this hotel is that it's far from the beach, you must go downstairs through the bungalows, and to get throught under a small bridge, where only children under 1,20m hight can stand. This is just the way to a small beach (7-8Euro/sunbed +umbrella). TIP2: if you want to go to a nice beach (just 3E/sunbed+umbrella) with music and entertainment, take bus up to bus stop no.1. That's what I did. It's a large nice sandy beach, crowded especially on week-ends . It's a good one (not too clean), because there are no rocks in the sea, so you won't get scratched!).
Or go to Malia by bus, a small town close to Hersonisos, you'll find there nice large beaches, but also rocks in the sea.

TIP 3: Bring a small shoe brush with you, you'll need it to get the sand off of your sunbed and feet!

TIP4: ALWAYS check if the balcony/garden door(s) is/are LOCKED! Keep them LOCKED when you are away and at night, at least the outside one to get fresh air at night!!!

TIP5: In case you need a farmacy on week-ends, take care: only ONE farmacy in town is open (it's 'on duty'). In order to know WHICH one is open, check the duty shift list at no matter what farmacy (on the door), a list of "who is on duty this week-end" + the address. BE SURE that that one is opened!

FINAL TIP: During 29July-10August, Hersonisos was full of tourists enjoying life and holidays, I had no problems with strikes in Crete, although taxi drivers were on strike in the port.
EXTRA TIP: Just take more money with you than you were used to in Greece, as everything got expensive in Greece, due to the raise of VAT from 13% to 23% (especially starting from 1.Sept.2011) and the price of gasoline (~2Euro/liter). Greece is not a cheap country any longer!

Room Tip: Ask for a room number starting from 500 on. Bungalows with sea view!

I stayed at this hotel for a week at the beginning of May 2011 on a half-board basis. The food was very good and the waiters and staff at the hotel provided an excellent service. The hotel is very nice and elegant. The lobby, pool area, dining room and bar were all great. The room was big but the bed was hard and my bath tub was dirty when I first got there. I pointed it out to the front desk and it was cleaned the next day. Also I had no hot water for the last 3 days that I spent there as they had some water problems at the hotel. It was supposed to be fixed the same day and 3 days later when I left there was still no hot water. I was disappointed with the commodities offered at the hotel such as Wi-Fi and the safe in the rooms which were all EXTRAS that you had to pay for. They had some computers in the lobby but those too you had to pay for. Also the hotel was not offering any excursions or their famous BBQ night as it was too early in the season.
