I have just returned home after a 10-day holiday at Diamond Village, Piskopiano, Crete.

I heartily recommend it as a great location if you choose to visit the island. The location is perfect for getting around with good transport links to Heraklion and beyond, as well as Malia and the eastern part of the island.

The resort sits on a hill between the port of Hersonissos and the village of Piskopiano, within a 10-minute walk of each.

Herssonissos is a bustling town with lots on offer for the tourist; shops, bars and restaurants.

Piskopaino is a small village which is connected to the villages of old Hersonnisos and Koutoalafari. We enjoyed walking down into Hersonnisos and also up the hill to these villages all within easy walking distance of each other. There are some great bars and restaurants and Tavernas in all three, that are well worth a visit.

We preferred walking to most other means of transport and while the hills up and down are quite steep in parts, it is good exercise for your stay. However you could rent a car or call a taxi of which there are plenty on hand.

The resort is small, which we liked as the experience is more personal than a large hotel and the small team of staff are friendly and very helpful.

The only issue we had with the resort was over our accommodation. We booked our stay through a third-party tour operator and their website. We booked an apartment, listed as suitable for 2 to 4 persons. Our party during our stay included my 18-year old son, and my 17-year old daughter. Our family are tall. The accommodation we booked comprised one bedroom with a small living area, kitchenette and small bathroom. Sleeping accommodation for our children took up the living space. Changing facilities were confined to the bathroom or bedroom area, with not really enough cupboards or hanging space for clothes. This accommodation is obviously designed for a maximum of two people and was not really adequate for the four of us. But I would say that these problems were due to a lack of information at the booking stage, rather than the fault of the resort.

Please also note that air-conditioning, an essential for us with ambient temperatures at night around 20 degrees celsius, is an extra cost, payable on arrival. It is not included in the cost of the room.

On the plus side, the accommodation is spotlessly clean with room service every day. The room service team provide an excellent service beyond what you would expect.

We were staying on a half-board arrangement and I have to say the food is excellent in terms of quality. It is freshly cooked every night, another benefit of a small resort, and there is adequate choice. Diners are advised of the menu on offer the night before and make a choice for the main course. Typically, this was fish, chicken, pork, steak. Breakfast in the morning provides coffee, toast and either continental-style or cooked options. The breakfast team are very flexible and ready to cater to your taste and your preferences.

The pool area in the resort is always busy with sun worshippers and each apartment has its own terrace or veranda, for those that wish a bit more privacy.

The bar next to the pool is the most popular and again is kept clean and tidy and offers a range of drinks from beer and wine to the most sophisticated of cocktails. Something for everyone with friendly and helpful bar staff.

As said Diamond Village has something for everyone. Overall I would heartily recommend it as a holiday destination. Small, clean, and very friendly.

Room tip: Get a first floor apartment over looking the sea. Be sure to pay for air-conditioning as the climate is very hot.

Just back from a weeks stay at the Diamond Village with Jet 2. This was our first visit to Crete.I must say it was a wonderful place. We stayed as a couple half board in room 307 which was only 10 yards from the bar or the pool. We had a maisonette type room which was modern and clean. Good maid service clean towels when needed etc. Slight downside only 2 TV channels in English if that is relevant for you. Not a huge complex and had a very chilled vibe which we enjoyed. Food is excellent and the staff very helpful. Special mention to Angela who took us through the various Greek dishes on offer and the wonderful Costa the barman who kept us in drinks and laughter for our stay. We will return

We have just returned from a two week stay here from the end of June and this place ticked every box for us. If you plan to self cater entirely you may struggle with the lack of equipment. We were on a bed and breakfast basis and were looked after very well by Angela and Alex with daily input from Angela to help us with basic Greek. We didn’t eat dinner here, we went out as the choice of restaurants out and about was massive. The staff are all very nice and approachable, a good mix of nationalities too which we like. Overall a great place!

The apartments for us were in a perfect position, quiet but within walking distance to traditional Greek villages. The villages of piskopiano and koutolofari were 10-20 minutes walk up hill and hersonissos 10 mins down hill. A must is a walk to old hersonissos up the hill and right... about 40 mins but well worth it . Little restaurants in a square, perfect Greek salads and ambiance.
The Diamond Village apartments are clean, well looked after and the staff attentive and friendly. George and his wife are diamonds as are the owners and Angela . They hosted a special Easter Sunday bbq for us all on arrival with dancing which was fantastic. The weather was just right for us early 20s most day , my son even went in the pool, although a tad chilly. Will be returning. Crete is beautiful as are the people .

Room tip: Maisonettes are super , we had one overlooking the pool , it was fine low season expect it to be not so quiet when busy .

Had a week in Diamond Village and were put in the worst possible room overlooking the pool table and bar. We asked to be moved next day which cost €180 euros for the week but gave us a slightly better room with sea view. The room is classed as self catering but that is really over estimating the facilities. There is a 2 ring hotplate, 1 large 1 very small, and the only thing available to cook with is 1 very large pot, (fine if you want to make a pot of soup)!! I asked if they had a frying pan and was told no. I’m sure they want people to go and pay for breakfast but why advertise as self catering when you have to go and buy your own frying pan!!
It is 10-15 minute walk up the steep hill to Piskopiano and Koutouloufari villages which both have lovely bars and restaurants.
Diamond Village has a nice pool area but we commented to the bar staff a couple of times that the music from the bar was way too loud. We used earplugs whilst sunbathing. The residents were older so the boom boom boom of music was out of place. It’s not Malia!! The staff were very nice but we didn’t find the location very good and not an easy walk to the nearest villages. There was a also a lot of noise from the bar in the evening. Wouldn’t return.
