We stayed with family on 29th Dec.13. It has Colonial Touch and remembering you the Raj era. The King sized Sofa & Chairs, Big Chandeliers and Carpet. Rooms are Big,with averagely good Fittings, Cutlery in restaurant/Bar are of fine Bone China. Very-very near to main Market, good Vally view, good lush garden. Now the real thing when we entered in the room Petticoat and under garment of some Lady was hanging in sun of window, Waiters waited till they did not get Tip for bringing Luggage. We have been cared after giving a healthy Tip, More over Buffet was not spread due to lack of guest, still the bar man who was serving in the bar is serving dinner in restaurant. It may be the best in Kalimpong if managed properly.
- Official Description (provided by the hotel):
- The Elgin Silver Oaks was built in 1930 and once belonged to the prominent architect Frederick Desraj who built the old Teesta Bridge. It is now converted into a luxury hill resort in the Himalayas. Lounging in the landscaped gardens in a profusion of colour, one is treated to breathtaking views of the Himalayas. The natural decor is characteristic in the imposing Kanchenjungha which can be seen on a clear day, blooming petunias and asters, the serrated violet edges of iris, iridescent butterflies flitting through colourful azaleas, drooping geraniums, proud orchids and heaven, temporarily descends on earth. Sitting in one of the quaint gazebos, the tea seems to be flavoured by the refreshing winds of the Himalayas. ... more less
