All monastaries offer havens of peace. This one seems to hold a special serenity. We heard some older monks reading from ancient books...a privilege for us.

Tharpa Choling Monastery is one of the most tranquil experiences you can have at the top of the mountains .although the climb is a bit steep as you move up through the prayer flags, the cool gush of wind flowing across the valley and the fluttering of the prayer flags with occasional monks and tourists makes it a really off beat location to visit. The monastry has been under extension of infrastructure and this time we found the pending constructions having been made. At the top, the entire monstry stands upright right into the clouds with unparalleled view of the distant mountains, fog and peace lapping up the entire area. When we visited in May, there was a debate gong on between the different monks and it was really enjoyable to see s many of them together at one location .. Inside the huge prayer room, the magnificent Buddha is sublime and tranquil. Just sitting in the hall will calm your inner self, give you peace.the scenery is outright serene and unearthly ..

This is another of the picturesque monasteries Kalimpong has to offer. Not the biggest, but still worth a visit.

This peaceful monastery is full of beautiful pictures and artefacts and is well worth a visit as is the interesting and well documented museum within the grounds.

I went to this monastery on 29th March 2016, The location of the monastery was stunning with fabulous views of the valley, it was closed when I went there, one young monk directed me to see the Museum close by and guided me, Museum is worth a visit as many items are on display, then the monk opened the Monastery and I went in and sat in silence to enjoy the bliss.

Must visit for all age groups when we are in Kalimpomg, Kalimpong is a small town with all major attractions in a small loop, one day is enough to cover almost all attractions including the most thrilling paragliding.
