This is one of the most beautiful monasteries in the area---- truly stunning murals with more images of Tara than i've seen in other gompas. Also-- walk upstairs to see levels 2 and 3--- with a monk who can open the doors for you. Really worth this extra effort---- lovely murals, statues, and artifacts. This is a highlight of the trip.

I paid 2 visits here , both on foot. It's a lovely walk & full of interest with the obvious option being to go straight up Rinkingpong Road but if you have time investigate some alternative routes which can take in the Animal Rescue centre or Crookety House.
The Monastery is at the top of Durpin Hill with great views to Kanchenjunga.
Very ornate inside & it's worth coming up for 3:30 pm or thereabouts to witness a ceremony which lasts for about 30 minutes.
Unfortunately , this may be slightly spoiled by unthinking tourists tramping about with their cameras .

Visited this Monastery on th Nov 2013 and I must tell u that this is the best place in Kalimpong.
From the outside it looks very small structure but once you get in you will be thrilled with coloured paintings on the ceiling. The surrounding view from the top is fantastic.
This place is just 15 min drive from Kalimpong (from Hotel Silver Oak, where we stayed in)

Visit and pray to the Lord. You will find many monastries in and around Sikkim, these are places of worship and one must not skip them whenever you see them around. A large play ground is visible on the top of the hill and its a place worth visiting.

Alas, I did none of the things the reviewers here have mentioned, but I might try it in my next trip. We merely decided to take a look at the recommendation of our driver, and we liked the monastery. We went unprepared and were pleased at what we found. I wish the monastery the best. It is neat and clean, like all the people of Kalimpong.
