A delightful guest house with some eight cottages built in and around a nursery on the road leading to Kalimpong. The family owned business is well run, has great staff in Denis and has very good food. The cottages are comfortable, warm and clean with shared balconies. Attention to detail is good and everyone willing to help. Free maps and good local knowledge. 1 Km from centre of town.

This Home Stay is a natural heaven yet with in the walking distance from the heart of the town.
The furniture and the amenities are very antique though but very well maintained. Hot and Cold water is available 24 hours. Service is excellent. Safe and well protected. Some bathrooms are very small though but very neat and clean. Above all the Owners are very nice people and will take care of every problem. Tourists may give it a try and they will be happy and I am sure will return to this property in future too if they visit Kalimpong.

I came to Kalimpong with the intention of moving on to Sikkim after a few days & had pre-booked into another place for 4 nights via the internet a couple of months prior to arriving in India.
Having read that some sightseeing & walking could be arranged by the people at Holumba, I took a walk over there after my first day in Kalimpong & was so struck with the favourable impression that i formed from meeting with the owner's & the beautiful surroundings of Holumba, I arranged to move there after my tenure at The Park Hotel finished.
Holumba is essentially a Homestay with lovely part wooden bungalows scattered amongst a lush garden & Orchid nursery. It is situated 10-15 minutes walk from the centre of Kalimpong on the main Teesta road yet is a really peaceful spot.
The Cottages are extremely good value & very cosy & clean with hot water always available.
Meals are served communally in a long room full of local relics with an attached lounge area which has free WI-FI. ( also available in the vicinity of the office ). The food is excellent & imaginative.
The gardens have plenty of tables & chairs on which to relax & if you are fond of animals you will be charmed by the presence of half a dozen friendly dogs, a few cats, more than a few chickens & a flock of Guinea Fowl.
I was so happy here that I put off my trip to Sikkim & spent 2 weeks here.
The owners arranged some excellent local walks for me & later some more serious hiking around the villages in outlying areas, including a night staying in a small village with local people.
I cannot think of a better way to spend a couple of weeks in the area & will certainly return..

Room Tip: Have a look on line. Bungalows away from road are probably the quietest.

Holumba Haven is one of the best homestay's that I have ever been to. The place is extremely well maintained. The cottage that I stayed in Magnolia (2 and 3) is huge. We had more number of beds than people :).

The place helps one totally diffuse and relax. The place is so calm and quaint that one does not know what to do to pass time. I definitely recommend this place to people travelling in groups and families as you would have someone to talk to and pass time. With no other means of passing time, books, fellow travelers, kitn n kin are the only possible ways by which one can pass time. This place gives you the right opportunity to connect with nature and your relations with whom you are travelling.

Pros:
1. Calmness and Natural beauty
2. Mrs. Thinlay (owner) is very nice to talk to.
3. Ideal place for family travel .. away from the hustle and bustle of the city ..
4. One can completely relax

Cons:
1. Food is more for the European travelers. It is more continental than Indian. You are better off eating outside.
2. Breakfast is the same everyday. No change in the menu

Room Tip: Please ensure that you understand that this is a homestay and not a hotel. This means that you canno...

a very rustic 1* hotel. they call it homestay, but it's more a hotel with rooms in cottages.
value for price is good. room has everything one needs. toilet, shower, warm water.
it's clean and relatively quiet locatet. bring a moskitonet with you and something to fix it. and be prepared for a hard matress. food is good india standard. breakfast OK. they serve an excellent porridge, for those who like it hearty. management and staff are very friendly and helpful.
WiFi in the reception aerea for free and at a good speed.
only an easy 10-15 min. walk to humming marketstreet.
if you look for a budget stay in kalimpong, it's a good adress.

All is not good about this place as enlisted in other reviews

THE GOOD ABOUT THIS PLACE

Its natural . More of nature , less of artificial things . Great Flora and Fauna
Beautifully made
Neat and clean
Great pets , a good place for pet & nature lovers

BAD ABOUT THIS PLACE

The complimentary tea is served 7 in the morning , if you wake up late and ask for it later , they dont provide it

Only one geyser for two bathrooms . If your adjacent room occupant is bathing you need to wait till he is out coz geyser does not provide sufficient warm for two to bath simultaneously

Be ready to play with insects . If the couples aren't going well with each other , dont worry they still have good companions to play with - INSECTS .They are just EVERYWHERE in the bathroom , on the bed and walls , in your shoes / socks and suitcase

They have some strict rules . There are frequent power cuts , if there is a power cut after 10 pm , the owner doesn't switch on the genset , they don't even pick up the reception phone . The temperature is normal but HUMID at night and you need atleast a fan to have a sound sleep and also to get rid of mosquitoes and insects. Since they don't switch on Genset , they just leave you at your mercy

The owner don't issue you the proper bill , hence eat up all the taxes that she collects from you . She just issues an estimate .

No internet in rooms

Dinner is strictly served

We stayed in Spring Site cottage for one night on 4th June, 2013. Nice place to relax, cottage was very spacious and beautifully decorated. Owner was very helpful. But please note that, it is a home stay and not a hotel or resort, so if you are visiting with family and children, it can be a problem sometime as you can not order order food or drinks in room except their fixed meals in their cafe only.

Big property, full of trees and plants but I feel that there is a room for maintenance of this wonderful but unorganized greenery. There were so many plants in front of our cottage that these were blocking the view of valley. There was only one TV in the cottage which was quite old and needed immediate replacement.
