This is a very very old temple. It has a great history. The doors are almost 40 feet tall. The Gopuram is really big. The shiva lingam is from sand. There is a old mango tree , which is reputed to be 3500 years old. This is also a must-visit temple in Kanchi. Entry to the main temple only for practising Hindus.

This is a large temple complex with 1008 Lingas and a 3500 year old Mango tree piece. There is a smal mango tree in the coourtyard. We enjoyed the visit.

I make it to point to visit this temple once in six month. Hinduism is believed to be one among the oldest living religion in world history.

One would can feel the divinity, if you are in right frame of mind. This temple pretty ancient and built 1000's of years ago, the god 'Shiva lingam' does not have date associated with it. Shiva lingam is believed to be formed out of sand by goddess. According to Hinduism its one of the 'Panchabota stalla' which equated to 'earth'

Be careful with the people at the entrance of the temple. Quite often, they tell you it is close but they can open it for you. What they really open is a previous columns hall and they ask you for a donation. but it is not. Actually is directly for him. If the temple is close at midday, there is no way to enter.
