A bit away from Puri main beach but very nice place having excellent view of the Bay of Bengal. Good food and well trained staffs. We spent four nights and enjoyed a lot. The swimming pool is clean and well maintained. There is enough empty space/greenery for children to play as well. Very good for family trips

Room Tip: Try to avoid ground floor rooms/suits

Just came back from a superb 3-day visit to Puri. The hotel is at the far-end of the beach. In fact it is the last hotel. There's no approach from the beach, the entrance is from the back, through the fields. The roads are in need of dire repair and I am told it will be done fairly soon.

The resort itself is a huge place, and even though was established 25 years ago, other than some cosmetic wear&tear (peeling plaster, broken pavement tiles etc) - it is in fantastic condition. Most of the sea-facing rooms are finally being built-up and would easily become the prime bookings as the view from each of them are spectacular.

The rooms which are in use, thankfully show no signs of ageing. They are spectacularly clean and even the normal double-bed room is strikingly large, with its own kitchen-sink neatly tucked away in the far-corner and still leaving enough space for a couch and plenty of empty space for another coffee-table.The A/Cs work too well. It gets cold very fast!

The in-house travel booking section is well maintained and provide good rates for all the visits you have in your diaries. Do not forget to take the jungle trek if the weather and the season allows for it. That's where you get to see the best beach- which is the reason behind the title of this review. No tourists, no food stalls, no beggars, no dirty sand, no brown sea water for hundreds of miles. It is a wonderful, wonderful beach. However, as usual be wary of the Puri sea. It is treacherous. You have to take a boat to that beach, crossing a river- at the sea-mouth of which sits the resort. Since it is at the end the actual beach which is adjacent to the resort hardly sees any other tourists. Quite correctly, a private beach of sorts in the morning as the river cuts it off from the main Puri beach during the high-tide.

Even though, travelling to Puri city-center is slightly problematic (you have to shell out 200 per auto-ride from the resort) - it is this detached sense of loneliness that gives this resort such wonderful serenity. Other than the ocean, there's no other sound. It's you and nature.

And then finally, there's the food and the staff, both jostling to out-perform the other. What wonderful dishes. The chef is fantastic! Do not forget to try the golden-fried prawns, it is mouth-watering. Or even the simple veg. pakoras (something that we would normally look at with disdain). The staff is ever-helpful and extremely affable.

If you want to see a different Puri, and want to stay away from the the dingy, dirty place that you have visited so many times - try this. You will be amazed to see that Puri is not all brown water and beach-rides on sickly camels. There's much more to it.

We visited this place in a group of 8 ppl in mid August for 2 days. To start with this place is really far from Puri city and travelling to & fro is costly given that there are harldly any worthwhile activities in the resort. The food is bad & the entire resort is ill maintained. But the biggest disappointment is the beach... which is practically non existent! All they have is a long bridge made of sand bags to reach an island resembling a beach.
Rooms however are decent (only deluxe suites) and the staff is helpful & courteous.
Overall: Not recommended for people looking for a beach resort or some activities.

Dear Sir/Madam,

Greetings from Sterling Holidays! Thank you for your valuable feedback and appreciation of our staff and service.

We would like to share with you that we are currently in the process of renovating our resorts. We are doing this in phases. Already three of our resorts in Kodaikanal, Munnar and Ooty has been completed. We have also begun renovating rooms across our other resorts and hope to complete the upgradation of all our resorts over the next two years.

For Puri, we are looking at the renovation plans and hope to address the beach access issue when we begin work at the resort.

At Sterling, we have been working hard to ensure that we deliver a memorable Holiday Dining experience to our guests and are disappointed that your experience was not satisfactory. We are investigating this but would like to assure you that this is an aberration judging by the favourable reviews we have been receiving on our F&B services.

Thank you for staying with us, and we hope to have an opportunity to serve you again.

Sincerely,
The Sterling Holidays Team.

This is a good hotel. We stayed in a junior suite which looked more like a duplex house. Good and prompt service. Prompt room service. Good welcome. This property is vary far from the Puri station (6-7kms) and autos demand INR 200, we settled for INR 150. May drivers were reluctant to drop us to this hotel citing the pathetic sandy and bumpy approach road to the hotel. Autos from the resort to the Jagannath temple quote a fixed price INR 150. Very far from swargdwar. Frequent power cuts but they have backups.

The buffet breakfast could improve to a large extent. Not much variety in breakfast.

Room Tip: All rooms have a jungle view!

Golden Sand Puri is an excellent resort but it is too far away from the city. It has been wrongly mentioned on the web site that it is 2 KM from the temple, actually it is approx. 5 - 7 KM from the temple. Correct information should be given on the web site, so that the people are not miss guided.

Room Tip: rooms on the first floor are quite good.

Golden Sands Puri is an excellent place to relax and perfect family resort.
With its competitive billing and excellent service, I was amazed at such affordable cost....
I stayed for 3 nigths and I really enjoyed each moment spent at Golden Sands, Puri.
Its bit far from Puri beach, but it has a private beach and you can always avail hotel cab or auto standing in front of Hotel gate.
The restaurant offers excellent food and great varieties of food.

Great resort with very good amenities only drawback for some people may be that its far from the action area (swargdwar). But if you are looking for a peaceful holiday with good amenities and great hospitality this is the place 4 u. A round trip to swargdwar in a auto costs a mere 200 Rs.
