Hotel Samudra is in my choice is the best hotel in Puri. Superb location, excellent service, well mannered and extremely helpful staff, excellent rooms and well maintained in every sense. We went to Puri and stayed at hotel Samudra in November 2011 and the experience was mind blowing. There can't be a better option to stay in Puri. The rooms are sea facing , neat and spotlessly clean, the service is just superb, you get your desired service within max 10 mins from the time you ask for it. They have all the arrangements for serving you food of your choice. We asked them for some special food for our baby and they did everything they could to ensure that we got the same. We will always go for hotel Samudra whenever we visit Puri.

Room Tip: Double bedded ac special rooms on the 2nd floor are the best.

I went to hotel samudra in puri with my hubby for a short trip.we were expecting the noisy crowd of puri.but what we received is luxurious escape from crowd.the little garden of the hotel takes you to an almost virgin lonely beach.the staff is co-operative and the room service is really fast.also the hotel arranged our visit to Jagannathdham with a friendly panda. We hope to go back to this hotel.

We have stayed in this hotel a number of times. Its a good budget hotel with excellent food and rooms with a view. I would particularly recommend the suits on the 3rd floor or the front rooms.

My wife, son and myself thoroughly enjoyed our three-day stay in Samudra Hotel, from March 16 to 19, 2011. Its bang on the beach, away from the hullabaloo. Cooperative staff, tidy house-keeping and yummy cuisine, gave us the much-needed homely comfort. The view from our room's balcony on the second floor was awesome.
A friend had recommended it to me and I, in turn, strongly recommend it for a mid-budget hotel.

Hotel Samudra is ideally located on the beach. Ideal place for beach lovers. Good food, but there is time constraint. you would not get food after 10PM. only a few staff in restaurant make delay in food service.
"Toilets of the room are very congested. Hotel organisations are advised to provide proper space in toilets."

We stayed at The Samudra Puri when we were traveling as a part of a school excursion group.

It is a fairly good hotel considering it is located right on the beach. And it also has a restaurant that serves some pretty decent food. However be sure to order in fast as seafood items run out pretty soon. If you don't order in advance for your lunch or dinner in all probability you wont get the item you actually want.

It is in a nice spot away from the hustle bustle of Puri's markets and temple complex. Though the market is only a short ride away.

I dont exactly remember but I guess the check out time is 9 AM which is a little strange. I'm not sure if it is the same for other puri hotels as well. They did assist in helping us put the luggage in their cloak room but still was expecting a standard 12 Noon check out.

Anyways a decent place to stay in Puri.

We went to Samudra Hotel in Puri based on the reviews here, and the Rough Guide's description of it as being 'the best midrange hotel in town.' Goodness, what a lie!

Let me state clearly the main problem with Samudra: it's the cockroaches. Now, this is India, and a cockroach here and there can be expected. What I don't expect, however, is cockroaches running across my bedsheets while the lights are still turned on. Or inch-long cockroaches running across my toothbrush. Or cockroaches partying behind the headboard. Uugh.

Considering the overall faded look of the place, that's not entirely a surprise. The reception area is nice, but the rooms are rundown, and the walls dirty. The balcony on the ocean is nice, but that hardly made up for the rest.

The hotel restaurant was very average, and dingy-looking. There are tons of restaurants in town, and this one was nothing special.

Finally, the hotel is actually poorly-situated. One kilometer east, you'll find everything from hotels to restaurants of all ranges. But to get to Samudra, you have to cross the creek to the west, and walk south into a dark and deserted area. Not a nice spot, the beach notwithstanding.

Finally, compared to other midrange options we saw in town, this one would have been terribly overpriced, even without the cockroach parade.
