“The worst experience ever!,”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 27, 2014

Being an avid traveller across the world and having stayed in all kinds of properties I have never come across something like this. On arrival on the 20 jan 2014 we were shown our room and since it was around 7pm we checked in and while keeping the luggage discovered to my biggest horror a dead RAT under the bed. On calling the staff one boy turned up with a broom and removed it with no apology or concern and the manager having left we were forced to stay in the same room and I could not sleep the whole night. The next morning despite being assured change of room we left our keys behind nothing was done and Infact the room was also not cleaned with no towels changed etc. no apology, no manager off course he turned up first thing next morning to take a small amt of money for drivers stay, unbelievable callous and terrible attitude , I wAnted to speak to the owner but was not given the number. I wonder how welcomeheritage has accredited such a property, I have such high expectations from them also Conde Nast traveller had reviewed the property highly... A real horror experience and unfortunately even worse the attitude, a decent apology would have made matters calm. I also wonder if we had not paid in advance would they have behaved similar???

We had a stay of 5 days, in this awesome place. property is well maintained & the staff was friendly and supportive. Since the villa is in upper part of shillong still the transportation facilities were frequent & good. The place is no so isolated as it is very near to IIM it offers us all kind of basic facilities like ATM, local market etc.
If you want a royal British feel & romantic stay go for Rosa Ville, we had a great time, hope you all will enjoy the same.

stayed for 4 days & they make me feel like a king.
Large & beautiful property with well maintained lawn & rooms.
You will get a feel of British architecture in villa as it has wooden flooring & big fire places, nice collection of antique furniture.
Staff was supportive & complementary breakfast was good.
Good place to relax as you feel isolated from the city life.
price is reasonable.
But the environment may give you a haunted mansion feeling in the night, so not a place for weak hearted people.
ONLY disadvantage are its main advantages
1. You might feel lonely ( Good for romantic couple )
2. Away from police bazaar market ( More time for yourself )
3. Scary feel in night ( common thing with all old places )

Room Tip: TIP Better to stay as a group of couples. A single couple in a single room might not catch a sleep...

We stayed for 3 days ..The rooms are large, old and heritage style. The staff are NOT at all supportive, Horrible service and food is really bad. But the ambiance is GOOD, rooms are maintained well. Can be a very good place but need a proper attention for managing the property.

Great place to relax. This is a heritage property situated around 6 kilometres from main market area.It is a large property with beutiful and well maintained lawns. We really enjoyed walking on these lawns . They have total of 7-8 rooms .All the rooms are well furnished but bedsheet and pillows were not very clean.Food items were limited and it is better to avoid food in this resort except for snacks or cup of tea.Service needs improvement as most of the staff including manager are untrained

The photographs and few reviews were encouraging and we decided to stay here.I stayed here with my wife and three college going children.
The property looks nice from outside , isolated and away from the congestion and pollution.
But, the service is the worst that you can ever imagine. The manager and hotel staff ,behave , as if they are obliging by allowing you to stay there.During the peak season, in the month of June, we were the only guests, staying there.
The manager, left the hotel by 7 PM, saying that he is already late and he does not stay after 6PM.
When we checked in,and sat on the bed, it cracked and shagged.Let me tell you,I am a normal guy and not over weight.
When I called the boy, first he refused to acknowledge that anything was wrong. On persistence , he raised the mattress , and it was seen that the longitudinal beam had fallen and bed had sunk.
Casually, he said , it is not serious,he will put it in place.
I told him, I did not like to take risk and since his hotel was empty, he could change the room.
To this he said, that the manager had left,he cannot be disturbed now.Without the permission of the manager, the room cannot be changed.
The hotel does not serve you food in the room.
Our children liked the decor of the hotel and were taking photographs of the lobby and sitting area. The hotel staff shouted at them that it was already 9PM and they cannot wait indefinitely for them to have their dinner.
For complimentary breakfast they serve Poori bhaji and charged for the cornflakes-milk.
At the time of check out, when I complained to the manager, about these incidents, he was not bothered. He merrily said that this was management policy and they are not concerned with negative views of their guests.
This property can become worth staying, only if the management decides to change the entire staff and the manager.
Till then stay away from here.
There are many better options available in Shillong.

With the usual 3stary types showing up in Police bazar and wanting a little more uniqueness in our stay in Shillong, we chanced upon this property. It's located about 8-10 kms away from the noisy bustling town center and the location is just amazing. It is off the main road and the IIM-Shillong is just around the corner.

This is a well maintained colonial property. You have a choice from the smaller standard rooms in the annexe, to the larger deluxe and suites in the main house. We stayed here a couple of nights prior going to cherapunjee and on our return on the 31st, were the only ones in the hotel and we decided to upgrade to the larger deluxe room as a treat.

The furnishings, fireplace, quirky paintings, colonial photos add in enhancing the colonial vibe in the rooms and the vintage photos, decor in the sitting room/dining room are all a throw back of a time gone by. They have a beautifully maintained garden, with tall pines and flowering trees and plants everywhere.

Sadly, the food and service is a lot to be desired. Infact we were told by the hardly present manager, that it would be better to eat our meals outside !!

Breakfast/meals are usually served in the dining room and it was really cool to eat the otherwise boring toast/omlette, on some good china and elegant cutlery :) They have a wonderful cabinet with original blue crockery amongst other things to admire

From my general impressions of the state and comparing it to neighbouring assam (where we went first and service/food choice were top notch), is that perhaps large scale tourism is a recent phenomena here and given the laid back nature seen through Meghalaya; it surely rubs on the staff! I read that a lot of the hotels are sending their staff to Darjeeling to get trained on attentive service/customer management.

The star among the staff here though, was this really sweet guy called Pankaj, who was available everytime something was needed ! He was rather apologetic that the cook wasnt there on 31st night and went to the local chinese nearby and got some food. On extra cost, they bring in firewood and it was really fun to light up a fire in the room, while eating chilly chicken !

Having been to similar heritage properties like Sherlock and King's cliff in Ooty, I think Rosavile, has a tremendous opportunity on their hands to get things in order and have a really interesting/good value option for tourists.

The fact that the entire place was empty, when every other hotel in shillong was packed, is perhaps something to take to consideration. While I was happy to have all the peace and quiet, the hotel could surely do in having many more customers, looking to having a more unique lodging experience.
