This is my second visit to this hotel, on work. The hotel is small, having about ten rooms; it is a heritage property, converted into an hotel. The rooms are small, but clean and functional. The service of the staff is very good, though the food was not that great. Being out of the main road, it is very quiet. All in all, a comfortable place to stay when you are visiting Shillong.

I had been in RH Tripura Castle with my family on May 22 nd,2010 for 3 nights. We had booked a superior room with private lawn. The booking was made thru NET at Rs 3800 per night + 20% govt tax. But when we were checking out on 25th morning around 11 a.m. the gentleman (?) in the reception told us to pay Rs.5000/= per night + Rs.1000/= as tax. I referred about the mail sent by them. But, he had shown me a newly printed tariff with new rates. Though, I got confirmation over phone about the rate to be paid. This man had denied to listen anything regarding that. I felt extremely humiliated with the behaviour of the office bearer of RH Tripura Castle.

We decided on a second honeymoon on 48 hours notice and due to the ongoing holiday season rush had to settle for a couple of days trip to Meghalaya. Selected the Hotel through a local contact in Shillong for an overnight stay before proceeding to explore the other tourist attractions outside the city. However, the hotel made us change all our plans and we extended our stay in Shillong for 2 days. Away from the hustle and bustle of the commercial area ( where most hotels are located) this was situated on a small hillock not very far from the city centre. Do not expect a palace as the name says but a very very cosy nest. You do not feel you are in a hotel but rather in a guest house. Antique furniture, wooden floors, large bathrooms, balconies, courtyard , friendly staff and most of all the serene surroundings- it was indeed a relaxing holiday. Two issues need to be mentioned though - the food menu may be some more elaborate and the room charges seeem a bit steep comparatively. Transport to and from the city centre is expensive also since you need to call for a cab everytime you feel like going out. But overall it was a relaxing, nostalgic holiday. Hope the management does not make it commercilased as we look forward to visiting this place several times in the future.

We stayed in Tripura castle for 4 days and found the service is VERY POOR. The people are not at all friendly and it found them arrogant. There are no plug points for charging mobile/camera etc in the room. Bulbs are missing from the socket, not enough light in bathrooms etc.

Really arrogant staff. Food takes hours to come. In the middle of nowhere yet not serene or anything. Dont stay here. Stay in a hotel instead. This is like a jungle lodge without any of the nice things.

We booked into Tripura castle on the 17th of June 2009. What we loved about the place was that it was away from the city, secluded on a hill away from the hustle, bustle of the city. The view was spectacular, the air was crisp and clean.
The only negative part of the hotel was that the room (which was the only one available at the time) was cramped. The T.V. was way too small. The bathrooms plumbing was not good. The walls were thin as we could hear the noise from the rooms adjacent from both the sides. A party of men next door went on till almost 12 - 2p.m but we drowned their voices by putting on the fan!
The service was good though not spectacular. The food was good but highly priced. On the last night I had ordered a Khasi meal which was scrumptious, but the scrawny Cherapunjee chicken dish cost quite something! Prices were on the steep side - I was a little shocked to see my bill for the 2 days and nights we stayed there ( we thought we were in for a budget holiday but this exceeded our limit!)
On the whole an okay stay - nothing to write home about!

The hotel is located away from the busy roads at the end of a colony, which makes it accessible to the town, but yet is very very quiet. The rooms are slightly small, although the baths were recently redone and very reasonably good quality. The prices are reasonable, the staff is courteous, food average. The quietness and ambience is good. Internet is available at reception, but not in rooms or as a wireless. Overall a good place in Shillong
