The visit was worthwhile, the three-phase waterfalls are very attractive. Elephant falls in Shillong is a beautiful place and that is nicely organized. Must visit place. Getting down and coming up is quite a task but all worth it.

Visited Elephant Falls in mid Dec 2013. The waterfall is divided into three steps. You have to take concrete steps to see the waterfall. Quite tedious for elderly people and those with knee problem. Saw many old people struggling to walk down the stairs. The waterfall had water. May be it would have looked magnificient during monsoon. I personally feel the concrete steps made the waterfall look unnatural.

In the parking lot, saw many tea shops. They were selling woolen cap, shawls and bamboo handicrafts. While purchasing you can bargain with them.

At the outset, let me clarify that I have seen quite a few waterfalls in India and abroad, and that perhaps may have to do with my take on Elephant falls. The plus is its being just a 20 minute drive from the city centre, even 15 (the return may take 2 hours, as this road has the worst traffic snarl I have ever seen, as the norm). The entry is a paltry amount and the parking also has small shops for local merchandise. That said, the falls are in 3 stages, and it is cement steps all the way. So those with walking or climbing problems may opt out. Franky, the first stage had a little fall, accumulating into a dark green puddle. The next was only marginally better, so we didn't really bother going down further to the third. The area is clean and well marked out, byt that apart, from me, it's worth it only if any water faking from a height thrills you. Why 4th on the list is probably because the city proper hadn't anything much, unless you head out.

Elephant falls are divided into three steps(Falls) for which you have to go down too many steep steps. The first step has a broad fall but the flow of water was very little. The 2nd fall had a very little amount of water but the 3rd fall was quite satisfying.

Enjoyed the sight of elephant water-falls throughly . All of us got clothed in local outfit and clicked snaps. We went down almost to the last stairs , felt quite eerie !!!
