Elephant Falls were named after the now non-existent elephant shaped hills where the falls are located. The local name for the Falls was something else in Khasi, but it meant the falls which fall thrice. The beauty of the falls are that they don't tire you. I have been to other falls, and the sheer height from which you have to descend and then ascend up the stairs can be taxing, but not with elephant falls. They have also been maintained, I think majorly by the Armed forces. If you are a shopaholic, you can buy local merchandise from the local shops outside the falls as well.
