Beautiful and wonderful scenic beauty, also known as 3-step falls. The water is as clear as pure and its a big excitement going down to the bottom by the stairs made by cutting the stony hill.

I liked it. One can go down to the bottom . Water goes on coming. Now concrete steps and facilities are made by the authority. Ticket is required. Location is good. Worth seeing. You can also have tea etc near by or a little momento.

Beautiful place for clicking great photographs. You also have option to travel further down to Cherrapunji where you'll find even mightier falls. Good place for outing if you are travelling with family.

That’s the only advise, the word of caution I have for the prospective visitors. There are around 50 steep, major rocky steps that will lead you down to the bottom floor of the falls. You must go down to this bottom floor to enjoy the complete beauty of the falls and take nice photographs. But never go down fast – steps are narrow, always you’ll find tourists coming up, hence space-constraint will always be there, so as safety hazards. Steps being slippery, chances of slippage is high. And while coming up, steps are steep, so plz come up slowly, take your time, take back your lost breath at every step, enjoy the lush green beauty of the surroundings, enjoy the 3 major steps of the falls, and come up gradually. Never be in a haste. And for people having some breathing problem, its advisable not to go down. Even if you go down, come back slowly.
Road to elephant falls (same as Shillong Peak) is stunning. Once you leave the “queen of hills” and gradually move up, the vista of the beautiful hill-station down below opens up. Do stop your vehicle at some of these bends and take some photograph of the beautiful Shillong down below.
Visit before dusk (I think they give ticket up to 4 pm). But it is advisable to visit within 3 pm and come back. Else it’ll be dark below.
Near the entrance, you have good, sprawling car parking spot. Plenty of Khasi handicraft shops are there. You may spot some interesting pieces here for your memento. Of course you have to bargain. Same handicrafts you may also get in Khasi handicrafts emporium in Police Bazaar, Shillong. But that may be even more pricey there. Moreover, Police Bazaar crossing is always crowded. You have to park your car there inside the multi-storied parking and then walk down to the emporium. Here you get the same at the falls parking itself.
Don’t forget to taste the hot, freshly-burnt aromatic maize from the hands of Khasi Kong at this parking. Respect them, they are the mother of the Khasi tribal society.
Visit the falls year-round, though in monsoon, the falls swell in full beauty after it receives the full, fresh rainfall. But again in monsoon, the steps go extremely slippery and treacherous as they go rain-soaked. Considering this, I’ll recommend winter-time to visit, though it becomes extremely crowded then. Not only tourists from outside, it’s a nice outing spots for locales as well.
Carry woolens in winter as the drive to the falls is chilly. However, keep your sweater in the car while you go down the steps. Once you come up the steep steps, you’ll feel hot and sweat even in peak-winter.
I assure there’s no safety problems here. How many times I visited I myself lost count, never faced any problem. Respect the locales, local culture, get respect in return. Elephant falls is a complete package of entertainment consisting of the falls itself and the culture surrounding it.
