“An oasis of quality”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 7, 2013

Asian Confluence is as much a concept as it is a boutique hotel. The rooms, the decor, the service, the cleanliness are exceptional. So are the cultural evenings that it frequently organizes, making it quite the socio-cultural hub of Shillong. The place boasts an inviting, though small library-cum-reading room, and a hall with a seating capacity of over sixty.Tucked away in a quiet corner of a pulsating market, Asian Confluence is just a few minutes walk from some lovely cafes and coffee shops. So if one is looking for an experience, for an oasis of quality and culture in the middle of a burgeoning Indian hill town, this is the place.

It was an incredible experience...compact and comfortable. The decor inside and outside is amazing, combining old world beauty with modern day comfort. The team that runs the guesthouse is warm and welcoming. The programmes are top quality, combining cultural, intellectual and political. Highly recommend.

Nice and cosy guesthouse. Clean rooms with amenities inside that are close to a 4-star hotel. Not sure how competitive is price as I haven't compared with other guesthouses. Very nice and friendly lady manager that makes you feel like home. The small outside area is nicely filled with flowers. Wi-fi worked, but with few glitches.

Given that it's a guesthouse and not a full-fledged hotel, the breakfast, lunch and dinner are served at specific time, which can be quite late if you are an early bird (for example, dinner is served at 21.00 at the earliest). However, the fact that they still can offer lunch and dinner on pre-order basis despite being in B&B (guesthouse) category is commendable.

Definitely will be my choice if I come again to Shillong.

Asian Confluence is a comfortable boutique hotel with a tremendously helpful staff. We used this hotel as a base for our trip to Meghalaya, so we kept coming back to it for a week. The staff was tremendously helpful in arranging for various things like car hires, emergency dinners and first aid. We were stuck in the hotel for a couple of days due to a strike. Room service was a strict no-no, but the skeleton staff was happy to supply us with tea and snacks in the library where we spent the day playing Scrabble.

The location is interesting: on a quiet street in the middle of lively Laitumkhrah with its cafes and restaurants which stay open late (by Shillong's standards). It is also a short, twenty minute, walk from Police Bazar. Don Bosco is next door; the Governor's residence and Ward lake are about 10 minutes away on foot.

Negatives? The plumbing could be improved, but this is a problem almost everywhere in India. The first room they gave us was a little troublesome, but they changed the room immediately when we complained. The other odd thing was that the hotel was decidedly colder than the outside.

Overall, if we had wanted a resort we would have chosen differently. But having decided to try out a nice cosy hotel, we thought we had a good deal.

The points that are to be considered while deciding to stay at Asian Confluence, Shillong:

i) The internal decor of the guest house is good, cleanliness is well maintained being a new guest house. However, in spite of all these the guest house specially at instruction of the manager Ms. Sabari will not cooperate regarding providing room service. eg. We had a 11 month daughter who was running fever and informed the guest house that we need room service as it was difficult to go downstairs in dining hall at this cold ( less than 10 Degree celcius) - specially with one door at the dining hall which cannot be closed and remained open always and which made our daughter's health worse.
ii)No heater facility considering the cold weather at Shillong making the stay quite uncomfortable. The guest house is also not aided with the basic first aid facility like keeping a thermometer at frontdesk.
iii)Food quality is good but less options. It just had one type of Veg and one type of Non-veg thali.
iv)Value for Money - I consider the factor that the hotel charges quite more than facilities provided. To give a comparison, a hotel Yalana in the same location provides bigger room with similar amenities with half cost than charged by Asian Confluence.
v)The other difficulty is to reach the hotel from the city centre(Polica Bajar) in the place Shilong as rarely cabs agree to drive to the locality(Laimukha) as the road from city centre to the place Laimukha contains lot of traffic jam, so cabs charge more as they would need to travel through other roads on upper hills than shortcuts. Though this is not a fault of the hotel but pointing out about the location as the place where the guest house is situated is quite far from the city centre( Main market - police bazaaar ) and the communication is not that great through cabs.

A cozy boutique hôtel tucked away in a quite neighbourhood of Shillong & far from the crowded areas. Absolutely loved the place with its nice homely feel. The service was efficient & the staff always smiling. The lady manager makes sure all guests are looked after with a nice personal touch. The restaurant is small but serves very delicious food. The library is a nice warm place to have a private meeting. The owners have taken care to plant a lot of flowers around the property.

Room Tip: All rooms have good decor.... #103 is a bit cramped.

I stayed in Asian Confluence from 17th till 19th. What a pleasure. Clean, homely. Food was absolutely excellent and hygienic. Before coming I was apprehensive what I will land up in Shillong but the trip was excellent. The team was very helpful, they arranged transport at very reasonable prices and at short notice. This trip reminded me of my trips to the countryside B&B's in small countryside cities in Europe particularly Great Britain. It was a great experience to visit the tourist spots as well and the location is very convenient since it is close to the market place but still away from the hustle bustle. I hope to come soon with my family.
