From Lad Mawphlong to Mawphlong, the trek measures about 14 km (16 km if you follow the trail inherently, and dont take the steeper short-cuts in the later half. The trek crosses two water bodies, the larger being the Umiew. Not an easy walk for the uninitiated. Dont venture alone if for the first time. If taking children, a single family is not suggested. A group of five is recommended. Locals that reside along the trail may not understand English. Help is not easy to come by. There are no primary health centres along the complete stretch. Carry water, source of energy (chocolates, dry fruit) and first aid. In the monsoon the Umiew is not easy to cross. The only suspension bridge on the river broke in 2010. A new one is being built. Till this is done, wading across the river is quite a task. The stones are slippery, there is barely any hand-hold available. Crossing it alone is not advisable.
