“The drive was a bit tiresome but worth it in the end.”
Reviewed April 7, 2014

this is a dense grove of forest which is considered sacred by the locals and no tree felling is allowed over here. the drive to reach Mawphlang was a bit tiresome from shillong due to the poor road quality, but once we reached, it seemed worth it. Carry a compass , a water bottle, a camera and sturdy walking shoes with you. there are some well-trodden trails in the forest which you can follow and simply wander about, resting when you feel like it.

“Island of a Forest”
Reviewed March 31, 2014

The area around the forest is very degraded, but the forest sits on top of the hill like a small island. Inside it is better but the periphery is littered with picnic items and whiskey bottles and cows are grazing throughout on the leaf litter. There was very little water but the forest around is very majestic. It might be a good bird watching location earlier in the day. I am not sure how one gets in touch with the warden, but if you show up some one will come to collect your fees.

“Lovely forest, but nothing really to experience”
Reviewed January 8, 2014

The grove / forest is lovely like any forest is to walk in, but unless you have good english speaking guide or speak Khasi yourself, you will not learn much about it. Outside the grove is a great picnic area. Carry a packed lunch for a fun afternoon but do not expect any more from the sacred forest

“Serene”
Reviewed December 22, 2013

The Sacred Forest is serene and and offers an enjoyable experience for everyone. The local guides were there to help and give you information about the forest and the trees that were there.Next to the forest, there is vast area of field where people can sit and enjoy the view or feel the breeze. Its a great place for having picnic.

“A lovely place to be”
Reviewed December 7, 2013

I was lucky enough to have a good description of the forest and the meaning of its contents. The ancient stones and also the stone throne, used for 500 years. The passion of the local people for the protection of the forest, and the growing pathways make a trip here is to experience another world.
