“must for all the botanist and natualist”
Reviewed September 15, 2013

This place has an aroma of mystery. Don't go here just for pleasure. If you are not serious nature lover, this is not the place for you. This place is really that sacred.

“Mystical forest”
Reviewed September 9, 2013

The journey from Shillong to Mawphlang is not long (only 25 KM) but difficult due to lack of signboard. We visited on a Sunday and we were the only people there. There is a vast open field and suddenly the forest starts. The forest is thick with vegetation and looks like it has not been disturbed at all. The first thing you notice about the forest is the sound coming out of the forest from many insects like cricket and others unknown variety. The atmosphere is mystical. The inside of the forest deserve a look but no guide was available. There are different kinds of arrangement with stone slabs but no explanation in the form of notice board or guide was available. Saw an open theatre under construction. There are nice views around. A guided tour inside the forest would certainly enhance the trip more worthwhile.
It also lies on the way to Mawsinram. If someone is travelling to Mawsinram then a stop in Mawphlang is certainly worthwhile.

“Breeze, Breeze and more Breeze!!”
Reviewed July 8, 2013

Mawphlang is very windy and gets very chilly in the evenings. the strength of the breeze can literally push you over the Hill. The sacred Forest is Quiet and Peaceful. with the local chief's (Ba Tambor) permission you could camp inside the forest. You are not allowed to take anything from the Forest! fair enough. the Forest isn't very dense, but is well covered to give you plenty of shade. This is a place you could visit ONCE!. you really wouldn't miss it. Better Natural wonders to visit in Meghalaya. and remember to pay the guide even if they don't ask you for money. they are providing a service to you and we should value the same.

“Magical place!”
Reviewed May 31, 2013

It felt like traveling back in time. The place was deserted and the monoliths looked like sentinels guarding something sacred. I felt disappointed to find a plastic bottle underneath one slab and to see some abandoned concrete structure a little away from the site. This place should be protected and respected.
