A very deep & dense Forest with many medicinal plants & big trees, Sun rays cannot penetrate even at noon. No body should pluck any flowers or fruits from these trees. If found doing so it is said that God of the forest punishes them. Persons found to indulge in any illegal activities within the forest, died soon in mysterious way !

Must visit. 15- 20 mins from Elephant Falls.

Beautiful landscape.

If planning to go inside forest, make sure to have boots and hire a guide.

There is no visible notice or information board or signway, so you might take time to figure out where and to go whom to ask.

This place can be visited when you are planning to go to Mawsynram. Need to deviate 10-15kms from the route towards Mawsynram. Nothing much about it. A peaceful place. Need to take a guide to enter the forest. No animals whatsoever. The guide will tell some stories about some local culture and some rituals done in the forest. There is a path laid for some 200 mts and then u can walk for another 1km. The guide wont let you walk beyond that. There seems to have a belief if you cross a particular point, you cant return on the same path ! If you are planning for a one day trip to Mawsynram there will be enough time to visit the place. If you are on a tight schedule, its avoidable.

This was never there in my original itinerary of Meghalaya trip. But got added at the last minute & I am glad that I got to do this. This is a sacred forest & has a rich Khasi tradition & story behind it. Our guide Job gave us the whole details about the forest, the customs followed in good old days, significance of the trees there, story about their lost Khasi script etc. It was a good 1.5 hours spent in here.

The only sad part to this whole thing is how some of the folks come by, have picnics on the outskirts of this forest & litter the place with broken bottles & plastics. Job, our guide kept telling us that they do try to prevent such miscreants, but they still weren't able to contain it & expressed his sadness about people not appreciating the nature.
