“Surreal walk”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 29, 2012

Peaceful walk through dense forest. feeling the soft earth below your feet is amazing. What was not too nice was the groups of people picnicking outside the forest. Somewhat disturbed the sanctity of the place

“A Natural Bio-Reserve”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 18, 2012

This is an experience in itself - it is a forest which remained undisturbed for centuries - nothing was taken out from here and nothing was brought in. You need to walk through the forest to realize what a forest would be if it was left all alone. A must experience spot.

“Mawphlang: the answer to global warming”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 11, 2012

The sacred forests of Meghalaya, 72 of which are preserved by the traditional religion in various levels of conservation are living repositories of biodiversity. Declaring forests as sacred by indigenous communities is an effective way of protecting them.

“Enchanted Forest Must See”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 20, 2011

In Meghalaya , every village has a '' sacred forest '' where the spirits of their ancestors are supposed to dwell . The forests are undisturbed for centuries , nothing is ever brought in or taken out . Only high priests and chieftains could go into the forest to carry out special rites on ancient moss covered monoliths . Of course , now you can take a guide and take a tour of this magic kingdom [ Mawphlong , 24 kms from Shillong ]. It teems with moss dripping trees , ferns , insects , orchids , butterflies , gigantic mushrooms and the deafening cicadas . Surprisingly there are no leeches and domestic animals never venture into the forest . No one knows why . This was one of the most amazing places I have come across in my travelling . Do not miss this if you ever go to these parts . This is not a part of the regular tourist packages from Shillong so expect absolute serenity and solitude . Not only will you get hopelessly lost without a guide , most of the interesting things would be missed . Guide cost Rs 150 for the short trek . Easy going even for the seniors
