“another hidden gem in Shillong”
Reviewed October 18, 2011

This amazing private collection is not on the 5 or 7 point trap of packaged tourists , so expect a degree of peace and calm . The collection is in the hands of the third generation and they are certainly not adding to the collection let alone '' breeding and conservation '' touted by many hopelessly outdated tourist pamphlets . However the collection is well maintained for many decades which is a marvel in itself considering the humidity . It is most unfortunate that this excellent collection is very poorly labelled ; a huge disappointment to the scientific mind . Do not expect to identify any butterflies / insects you have seen in Meghalaya - there are no clues here . This is situated in a place called Riatsamthiah near the Police Bazaar . Very well known in Shillong . Entrance Rs 50/30/100 for adult/child/foreigner. Open 11am - 4pm Monday to Saturday . Camera charges Rs 10 per shot ! Be honest about your total no of pictures . Deleted pictures don't count ; tell that to the young daughter of the present owner lest she gives you dirty looks . They should honestly hand over the collection to some professionally managed museum .
