“Having alternative, better you avoid”
Reviewed January 8, 2014

Based at the most crowded place of Shillong, Police Bazar. I was given room no 115 initially. No phone in the room. You wont find phone/laptop charging point in proper place. The linen quality and cleanliness is pathetic. For a business trip, just for a night stay sometimes you can ignore this considering the room rent @ 1200 INR all inclusive. But, definitely one can't share a rat family ( I don't know how much extended the family is !! ) in the bed..........After I started shouting the manager changed the room which one seems better.
The kitchen only produce Puri/vaji, Omelet and Tea. Rest come from outside. So be prepared to put your order well in advance and to have dinner by 6PM !!!
Even they don't have the stock of packaged drinking water. On asking the manager suggested me to buy from outside !!!
The same building adjacent door is a good Chinese restaurant. Worth venturing.

Hotel is at prime location and 2 min walk from main market. That's the only good thing about the hotel. Average service and rooms are little creepy. Slightly overpriced considering the quality of rooms. No standard pricing. They may charge anything as per market conditions.

We went there on December-2012 which is consider as the peak tourist time.
We were actually booked our room over phone with hotel Polo orchid which is one of the best as described by one of our relative who is a regular visitor of Shillong. Although after reaching Shillong our family, specially ladies didn't like the place as it was very very far way from the shopping center and city center of Shillong. So we cancelled our booking and searched different hotel near Police Bazar.
We were surprised by the price that was offered by the Hotel Rainbow which is at the prime location of the police bazar. The rooms were superb as compared to the room-rent. All the Staffs were very helpful.
They don't have proper restaurant in the hotel but never mind, I specially dosen't like to have supper at the hotel in which I am staying. There are lots of restaurants near by hotel.
All other facilities as offered were in-tact. The most important thing is that the hotel seems New to me that'y all the think as ok an running at good condition.

Location of hotel is too good, just 2 mins walking distance from police bazar in the heart of Shillong. I alongwith my family (12 persons including 3 children) has gone there, staying in this hotel (Rainbow) for 4 nights in 3 rooms (93,96 & 97). Experiencing is found horrible, wet bed was found due to water leakage from roof, roof rained water is passing through rooms, room service was not good even drinking water not served properly as well as ordered food was not upto mark, even it was charged more than double from local place.

As our plan was to visit Mawlynnong, we decided to hold in Shillong and made a booking in Hotel Rainbow over phone in January,2013. We stayed in the hotel for two nights and had a day trip of Mawlynnong from there only.
The location of the hotel is very good being exactly at two minutes walking distance from the Police Bazaar traffic point. The exterior though doesn't give a great feeling, must say that as soon as we entered the hotel we were amazed by the interior of the hotel. It was good and well maintained.
The room we were provided was a basic one with nice looking wooded interior. The bathroom was clean but felt a bit congested. Also a proper wardrobe was missing in the room (though a small one was there). The room was warm enough even without room heater.
The staff were co-cordial and up for any kind of requests any time. The food was kind of good if not the best. Though they have a menu not all items were available. However in Police Bazar one need not bother about Hotel food as there are lot of options just outside. We only took dinner there.
Overall I would like to conclude that the Hotel is a good one in budget range and lives upto the expectations. One may opt to stay here while visiting Shillong.

Right in town and loads of different room configurations to choose from...excellent room service staff who are predominantly tribal from Tripura state...Indian food delivered of a good quality...well appointed rooms, some of them, with great beds and bathrooms and LCD TV's; even a suite with a small private courtyard you could entertain in! Rainbow and its wonderful owner, when he is about, is a joy for a short stay right in the heart of Shillong! Every hotel could do with some improvements but Rainbow does it all pretty well!

Room Tip: Try to avoid/change rooms with noisy Indian customers who drink too much or get up early and start s...

Hotel is located in Shillong market area which makes it easily accessible. The ambiance and the rooms are very good at the rate they offer. We had taken a room on triple sharing basis and it was quite spacious for three of us to accommodate. Room has TV and good cable connection as well. There is only one fan in the whole room near bed which sometimes becomes annoying. Also there is no window in the room for proper ventilation. Best part is running hot water and electricity all the time. Hotel and rooms are exactly the same they have shown on their site. So you can check out the photos there directly.
We found the hotel receptionist a bit arrogant and not helpful.
