the first thing that comes to the mind is its congested location, little parking space and congested reception area.the next thing that comes is the sudden change from an area of congestion to an area of expansion as you climb to the first floor through a narrowed staircase.the rooms were spacious.food quality was very good.but the complimentery breakfast was terrible, more from quantity point of view than quality.the location is suitable as it is just adjacent to the police bazar area.since it was christmas eve, there was a hustle and bustle everywhere though it was nice to see the sky glittering with lights and crackers around midnight in 4 degree centigrade.more of a transit hotel rather than luxurious one where you can spend some quality time in cosy.so put for a day or maybe two maximum.

Room Tip: you can choose any room.nothing extraordinary for any room in particular.

Very near to the Police bazaar intersection. great location. restaurant is only by name, has three to four tables, very congested. Breakfast is horrible. not worth paying anything. Rooms are decent. Staff (Gautam and others) are friendly. Only one parking space at the hotel! There are similar cheaper options available around.

Room Tip: Don't pay for Breakfast included if you have choice because its not worth it. Explore other opti...

The room was average. There were a lot of smokers on the corridor I believe and the room perennially stank of smoke and it was pretty disgusting for us on-smokers. Rooms are quite comfortable but they do not have room heaters in Shillong, where temperatures go as low as 0 degrees Celsius. Service was pretty decent. The complimentary breakfast was served in a crammed dirty room and taste was average too. Location is the major plus for this hotel as it is located in central area.

Room Tip: Second floor rooms stink and rooms are not fully furnished. Uncompleted ply woods can be seen!

Hotel Silk Route is located in busy Police Bazar area of Shillong. It is in the main locality of city and you can get cabs for any place from here. We went there last week. The approach to hotel is very crowded and the street remains busy. Hotel looked good from outside, reception staff were polite. Interiors looked old and lacked in proper maintenance. The rooms were very spacious and bed was clean and warm. Restaurant was very small and looked cramped. Restaurant staff did not appear very keen on cleanliness. We ordered dinner in night and wow it did taste great and was served properly in the room on time. Overall it was a satisfying experience. Some of the sight seeing spots are located close to this hotel. Definitely recommended. A little more upkeep will make this place even better.

Shillong got its name from the deity of Shillong Peak (the highest point of Meghalaya). It has been into prominence from the British Era. It is the largest town atop a hilly terrain and having the oldest 16-hole golf course in India. It is the head quarter of the Eastern Command of the Indian Air Force. Its height is almost 4600 feet from Mean-Sea-Level. It has been the capital of undivided Assam till mid-70s. The British used to fondly call it the 'Scotland of the East' for its pristine natural beauty and climatic condition. Since the British used to rule whole of north-east as well as far-eastern part of Bangladesh from Shillong, the population of Shillong has a good percentage of Assamese and Bengalee community. Police Bazar is the heart of Shillong and it remains abuzz with activities from 6am till 10pm. It is always advisable to stay in hotels within walking distance from Police Bazar. Tourist may book local cabs for sight-seeing from this place only. There is a popular restaurant 'Suruchi' opposite to Meghalaya Tourism office that caters to authentic Bengalee cuisine. For sweets and snacks one may try the shop 'Delhi Sweets'. For authentic local handicrafts one may enter 'Khasi Emporium'. All these places are at a walking distance from the Hotel Silk Route.

Room Tip: I recommend rooms overlooking the adjacent road leading to Police Bazar.

The rentals are quite high if we compare the rental with the services, facility, location or services. It is just an average kind of hotel stay where you can go stay dirty, have loads of drinks, make noises. Did Not like the place.Keep your expectations low. Not recommended for people who wish to spend to get even basic comforts.

Room Tip: Try other alternatives though not many options are available however you can get a better deal else...
