The 19th century home of Captain Barr has 9 stately rooms and a large drawing room with vaulted ceiling stretching to 35 feet and a dining table to seat maybe 20 people. In the monsoons out of necessity the Verandah is protected by plastic sheet that does take away some of the beauty. The bedrooms are magnificent and so are the bathrooms. Nothing is 5 star level but does echo the colonial past authentically. That said the service is definitely outstanding and the food slightly pricey but sell cooked and well served. If you are not careful the monkeys will snatch your breakfast and even sugar sachets. If you are quiet you may see some hog deer browsing in the backyard. The bed linen does get musty but I guess with it's non stop torrential rain this is inevitable. There is a library of sorts but not much if you like reading so do carry your own. The same goes for liquor.

I have been to this property last week with great expectations. However the it does not fit the bill. The price is exorbitantly charged as compared to its facility. It does retain an British/Parsi touch however requires to adher to the current needs. I have heard the managemtn have changed that is the reason it no longer provides the continental food. However the quality of food is excellent. the staff who have been serving the old management is excellent and dedicated and that have helped it retain the quality. FI current management needs to justify its pricing then they have to provide continental food which was provided by earlier management, refurnish the property including its bathrooms etcs... retain old staff.

Located amidst the dense forest of Matheran this is truly a secluded place. The landline too does not work here! We were informed that it has no network or wifi connection but we were surprised to know that it has a pretty good wifi connection in the back yard. Specifically ask for it otherwise you will not be told the password! In the monsoons the bungalow is sheltered from the heavy downpour with plastic curtains so the beauty of the open veranda is lost. It is the experience of staying in a stately house that you pay for as the service and amenities are very average. During the monsoons there is a certain dampness and humidity in the rooms which cannot be avoided. The management has recently changed. The new management has retained the same pricing but unfortunately not maintained the high standards set by the Neemrana group. Please carry cash as the credit card machine does not work here and the closest ATM in the bazaar is invariably empty!

I went with my family during monsoons which was an off season for Matheran. There were heavy rains but we really enjoyed every bit of it. Hotel Manager MR. Rather she and his team ensured a comfortable stay at the hotel. Food was made to order and we all (including kids) likes all the food preparations by the Chef. I would certainly go back to the same location and seriously recommend this property to people who loves to adventure in the midst of forest...

When you want no phones- no tv - no disturbance - this is the place for you to be absolutely with family. The morning chirping of birds, wake up call by monkeys- amazing hospitality and great history..!! Loved it completely.
