Went to Matheran in march this year after a gap of 10yrs. After some search on the net we decided to stay at this relatively unknown cottage. we enjoyed our stay in march so much that we went for another short vacation at Radha Cottage last week. its a green, peaceful and comfortable place. the 15mins walk from the station is worth the stay in this cottage. the rooms are huge and well maintained. The heritage bungalow and duplex are the best units. they serve simple home cooked food which is delicious. A number of sightseeing points are close by and one can trek down there. There's a stable right behind the cottage in case you need horses.

Room Tip: Duplex are super big with two bedrooms, living area, dressing area and balcony. Rooms in Heritage Bu...

We were 8 people who went to Matheran in group and did our booking at Radha cottage before going there. I was happy that our stay was really good.

Pro:
Hospitality
Food
Cleanliness
Running hot water

Con:
Far from station. It is the last cottage in Matheran and is too far from the station. Walking distance almost 20+ minutes.

Room Tip: If you're looking for a mid range rooms without swimming pool and fitness center. This is really...

Matheran has been calling out ever since it featured in our Marathi lessons from school days. So after some 25 years (shamefully, since we are Mumbaites!), Matheran did feature in our travel plans. After some online research, decided on the relatively lesser-known Radha Cottage.

Location - Situated in the interiors of Matheran, it takes around 45 to 60 minutes on foot from Dasturi Point. On the positive side, it is located closer to several vantage points of this mini hill station. Go out for long leisurely strolls after your snacks / meals & life possibly cannot get any better. The red soil beneath your feet, tall trees shading you from the sun / rain (as the case might be), some native dogs for company and no fear of traffic of any sort (other than the occasional horse-rider), you are on your own with nature – yes, all this within 100 kms from Mumbai.

Stay – We, a family of four, were very conveniently put up in the heritage wing – there were 3 units, each having 2 rooms. The unit was big & had an old world charm. And the long, common verandah area that had a carrom table, a book shelf, an easy chair, completed the spacious feel.

We really felt blessed to have opted for this place over other hotel options available – also, cost-wise, Radha Cottage was as reasonable as it could get.

Places to visit – You could cover several points closer to this place either on foot or on horse-back. If your daily routine doesn’t permit a great deal of activity, why the second thought? Just set out on long timeless walks with no real hurry to go anywhere in particular! And just out of Pandey Road (where Radha Cottage is), you have this little joint that serves yummy vada pav & hot chai to complete the ‘stroll experience’.

Food - The package had all our meals covered as well. They have a beautiful dining area where their attendants endlessly serve to your heart’s content. At times, they also have a buffet arrangement. And, irrespective of your preferences – veg / non-veg – just one word to describe the food served – DIVINE!

The food experience absolutely rounded off the overall feel good factor about this trip – really, stuff of dreams. And God willing, we shall be back for more!

Room Tip: Let the owner, Ms. Vidula, decide the best possible stay option to suit your requirements.

i think it is the best place to stay in matheran, so close to nature, surrounded by tranquilizing greenery. closer to some attraction points, but relatively far from market. but market is not the place you would like to stay close when in matheran...

good place to stay both with friends and family...

I and my family keep visiting matheran and have stayed places closer to the station . This year we were looking out for a quiet and peaceful place with good food for a stay of 2 days and finally chanced up on a webpage about radha cottage. i spoke to the manager followed by their owner who worked out a good package for us (28th & 29th may 2013) .getting there is about 15 to 20 minutes form the station and away form the crowded market place, but the plus is that its very closer to a few points. As we were 8 of us we were given 2 rooms of the heritage bunglow which are very spacious, neat and clean.there is a big verandah with the heritage furniture that gives a colonial feel. there is water round the clock (hot water 7am to 10 am ) intercoms in every room. food served is excellent and its just like home made food . service is excellent , staff always seems to be very co operative and smiling . their manager is also very helpful and polite.staying here really made us feel so cozy that we wanted to extend it by a day but could not as they already had their bookings . considering the rooms , service , hospitality , food , cleanliness , hygiene etc we had no doubt that the package given to us was the best and easy on our
pocket . this is the first time that we had nothing to complain about.

After a week my son came back again with his group of friends and stayed at their duplex cottage for 2 days where his friends also enjoyed and appreciated all that we had.

PS - Not to miss this place if you are not fussy about swimming pool and disco tech. Service comes with a smile
