“Cheated on room”
Reviewed November 25, 2013

I had booked a 'Super Deluxe Room' in The Byke Heritage Matheran, through cleartrip for Aug 10, 2013. On arrival I was first told that there is no room available. Then they said that there was one room. When I moved in, I felt like it was a servant room with an attached bathroom. It was a 10x10 room and they call it 'Super Deluxe'. It looked like the room was not opened for last few weeks or months, it was stinking badly. I had paid some 5.5k+ for 1 night and got this for it. I had written a feedback on checkout, have not received any apology so far.
Food was good, service was ok.
Hotel is away from the main market.

Room Tip: Do not take a 'Super Deluxe Room'.

Byke is I guess the oldest property in Matheran and its spread across a big area and from the end of the main market one has to walk a fair bit to reach it.

The rooms we stayed in was quite spacious and clean. Though it looks like it was modernised with a good comfortable bed, new storage racks and a LCD tv but they forgot to change the Air conditioner, it was those old general ac's which made lot of noise. Also the TV signal was grainy, looked like a local cable network which was not doing justice to the new LCD TV in the room. Even though the rooms were clean but toilet was opposite and could see mud on the walls, but it was promptly cleaned by the room service.

The food in the resort was good but though it was vegetartian so can be a bore for a non vegetarian like me but the food was good and vegan friends enjoyed it a lot. To be honest, even I did like it.

Resort has a big pool about 8 feet deep at its deepest point and it was well maintained. There is recreation zone which houses carrom, pool table, and has the required equipments for cricket, football etc. There is also a seperate section of Table tennis. Towards the end of the resort there is tennis court, which we conveniently converted into a cricket pitch.

All in all I would say its a good place to enjoy with family and friends over a weekend.

Room Tip: Rooms near the pool are smaller compared to the ones on the level above it, also can get noisy.

Matheran's oldest and probably the biggest resort is also the most impeccable service provider.

Rooms: The rooms are insanely modern, spankingly clean and definitively cozy. The bathrooms boast of the most modern shower jets machine. The sinks are exquisite. Space is also not an issue, with the customary full length mirror present in the centre. The only drawback? Monkeys rule the roost outside the rooms so you have to keep them closed always (also mentioned as one of the first rules of the resort)

Food: The Gujarati owners ensure that the food is pure veg and sumptuous. Breakfast is filling. Lunch has all courses of a Gujarati thali that you can imagine from Dhokla to Papad to kadhi to piping hot chapatis. One night the dinner served was a mix of chinese and indian. Special mention to the dessert, it was fresh gulab jamun. The food will leave you wanting for more yet will satisfy your taste buds.

Amneties: Swimming pool, Clubhouse, in house ice cream shop. We played Table tennis and Carrom (at no extra cost). But playing pool would incur some charges on per hour basis.

I would recommend this resort for anyone visiting with family who can afford to shell out something extra and is looking for a relaxing trip rather than a trek trip. It was totally worth the money spent in my opinion

Room Tip: All rooms are good. just don't forget to lock them up else be prepared for monkey invasion

This is one of the oldest and hence biggest property in Matheran. From the front door , you have to walk around 200Mtrs to reach main area. We stayed in Odessy rooms which are like Duplex. Its good for 4-6 adults and 1-2 kids. Room is spacious and bathrooms were clean though bedsheets were not clean which were replaced immediately when we asked for it. We stayed in #136, it didn't have any pool view unlike some other category rooms. But then that was the reason it was very quiet in the evening while other rooms were near pool and DJ room and you can hear music till 10 or 10.30 in night (its individual preference here). Food was disappointment , it wasn't very tasty. We wish, we could have tried some other places for same. They also don't have tea maker and we had a infant, so every few hrs we had to ask them to get hot clea water, which we got without any issue. Overall a good place except minor hygiene and food taste issue.

Room Tip: Try to take pool view rooms which have balcony where you can sit and sip tea in evening. Other room...

Dear Sir,

We thank you very much for your valued feedback and are glad to that you enjoyed your stay with us. Matter of fact, our food is more popular of being very tasty, however we regret that it was not to your taste. Also the hotel being in the vast area, there could be minor issue of hygiene which we are overcoming it. We have also noted your other suggestions and would certainly be considering the same. Best regards.. Mihir Sarkar - VP - The Byke Group of Hotels.

Normally people avoid visiting Matheran in rainy season. We,however, just loved our visit in the rains. The people in the hotel were very friendly and helpful and at the same time, unobtrusive. We stayed in the cottage which had a hall and a bedroom on the ground floor and a bedroom on the first floor. The food was good and the room service was also very quick. All in all, very value for money.

Hotel is located at a very nice place, away from market (if you want to spend quality time away from hustling and bustling of city), perfect place to stay, surrounded by nature.
Good Rooms, comfortable bed, amazing premise..

Needs improvement in Bathroom Drainage system, as had call the house keeping multiple times to get it fixed.

Overall a Very Good Experience.

Byke being a heritage hotel is famous by its name. But I was disappointed on visitng the hotel. Its a huge property with beautiful location but has not been maintained properly. The rooms are not very clean and are very moist. The food quality is average. Comparatively the swimming pool has been maintained properly. Rain dance, discotheque are an added attraction. Though little far from the market place but location is good to walk around to see the beauty of Matheran.
