We (a couple and our friend) visited Kabbe during January 2013 - it was a wonderful experience for all of us courtesy the hospitality extended to us by Dilp and Vidya. Some highlights below:
Stay - The hallmark of homestays, you experience the joys of living with the hosts. The cottages are comfortable and well equipped. The verandahs attached to each cottage are ideal for curling up with a cup of tea/coffee and your favourite book. What makes the spot ideal are the beautiful flowers which Vidya personally tends to. I enjoyed a pleasant afternoon with a book, surrounded by flitting butterflies, the lady slippers and the canna which were in full bloom.
Food - Vidya runs an excellent kitchen. Everything (including the jam for breakfast) is fresh and homemade. You will get a mix of local food (we loved the Akki roti and egg bhurji combo, and our friend gorged on the pandhi curry) and food from other parts of India (outstanding dal/chola/lentils). Excellent though the food is, keep enough space for the homemade desserts. The apple crumble and fruit pudding were truly delicious. Since our friend was visiting from overseas, Vidya specially checked and catered to his cuisine and spice preferences.
Hospitality - Kabbe stands out for the warm hospitality of the hosts. Within the space of our first cups of tea and brownies, we became good friends. Be it escorting us up on the hills, driving us to the waterfalls, discovering the taddies in the sunlit pools - Dilip does it all with elan. We appreciated the trip to his ancestral home which was a slice out of his family history and the walk around his plantation. Quiz him on everything you always wanted to know about coffee growing, you will not be disappointed.
Strongly recommend Kabbe Hills for a visit - it is couple/friends/family friendly. Get ready for a great weekend of sunshine, good food, mild exercise to work off the excesses, making new friends and sharing stories and laughter.
- Official Description (provided by the hotel):
- "Kabbe Holidays is one of my favourite places in Coorg. Unspoilt and spectacularly beautiful, the hills are truly alive with the sounds of nature. Breathtaking waterfalls crash down into the valley and the air is so pure and always fresh. Summer, monsoon or winter, Kabbe Holidays is the one place in Coorg closest to heaven on earth."-Prasad BidapaFashion and Image Consultant (Comment from one of our guests) ... more less
