Searching in a cab for this place, it was difficult to find. We were alarmed how the place would be. But this was the last bad part of our story. The staff was very helpful and caring. Rooms were well made and clean. Co-visitors were decent dignified people and we could get along. They had good things to say about the owner.
Food was excellent. Service was prompt and very personalized. In short it was everything we could ask for.
The place is located close to the foothill of the Navagraha mandir. MC road on which it is located is also supposed to be an upmarket area. The place is inconspicuous from the outside but very spacious and homely from the inside.
All in all it is a place worth recommending. If I ever visit Guwahati again, this is the place I will blindly select.

Baruah Bhavan was not my first choice. I picked another super-recommended place and called Baruah Bhavan as a back-up at the enquiry stage.I am glad I ended up staying here in the end !

Baruah Bhavan cannot be beat for proactive service - Mr Sarkar the manager ensures it. My flight to Guwahati was delayed by 9 hours. When I called to let them know Mr Sarkar arranged to send their car to pick me up - even though it was the driver's day off . When you have spent 15 hours getting from Bangalore to Guwahati instead of taking the scheduled 4 hour direct flight, you appreciate the thoughtfulness of Mr Sarkar's gesture! He also stayed back though late into the evening and introduced me to Mr Hari who was available around the clock to attend to guests' needs. Whether it was tea at 5 a.m. or a light early Assamese dinner or arranging a car they took care of it without fuss. It felt like a well run home plus plus! And I am a sucker for such discreet efficiency .

To add to the charm Baruah Bhavan looks like a home ! Set one street away from the Brahmaputra river in the midst of a bustling market , it looks and feels like the home of a 20th Century gentleman of leisure- as if Mr Baruah had just stepped out and I was fortunate enough to be entertained as his guest . The decor throughout maintains this feeling with the living , dining and six guest rooms decorated in distinctly different styles . Depending on availability they show you all the rooms if u so wish and let you choose the one that you like I chose room No.1 on both visits - the red room with a nice little seating area which turned out to be surprisingly quiet despite fronting the road. The room was large enough for my needs, the beds comfortable and the bathroom clean and generous sized.

I also found their rates very good value for money; their dealings very honest and straightforward. For instance I was informed of the difference in rates between a taxi hired directly from the airport and a car arranged and sent by the hotel - a fact that helped me weigh the two before making my choice without feeling pressured or hoodwinked. Thank you Mr Sarkar .

This is a place that I would recommend especially to single women travelers who desire a safe and charming retreat in Guwahati . I would also recommend it to those who like honest old world charm to the bling and the mod-cons of a more modern hotel.

There is a lovely coffee shop within a 5 minute walk called the Brown Bean Cafe on H.C Road which serves excellent coffee. The railway station is a short ten minute auto ride away , The airport is an hour's drive if you do not run into bad traffic.

Room Tip: There are 6 rooms - 2 of them slightly smaller. The 4 bigger ones with a small seating space adds t...

Pleasant, smiling staff, neat and well-appointed room, and its location away from the hustle and bustle of the city, made our stay at Baruah Bhavan a very nice experience. Promenade along Brahmaputra is just walking distance. Main road is 5 minutes away and you get buses to Kamakhya temple base and city. The complimentary breakfast (choice of Indian and continental) was tasty. Since we reached there late for lunch (meals have to ordered at least 2 hours in advance as fresh food is cooked on order) and didn’t want a heavy dinner (veg meals at Rs 250 and non-veg meals at Rs 350 are offered), we could not taste the main fare offered. There are a couple of restaurants nearby, for those who want to have meal from outside.

No online booking option is available but if you send an email at the address mentioned in its Website, the response is prompt, and booking can be confirmed through a bank transfer.

I stayed at Baruah Bhavan twice in Guwahati and I love the property and its simple staff and freshly cooked home like food. Whenever I am in Guwahati again, I am going to stay in Baruah Bhavan only. Furniture here is a collection in itself, and most attractions in Guwahati are close by.

Room Tip: Choose the bigger rooms if you can afford.

I stayed here for a few nights on a work trip to Guwahati.

As the reviews of the hotels in Guwahati didnt make any of them look amazing, and some seemed quite noisy, I thought I would try this place.

Booking was done in advance, I paid for my stay with a bank transfer and they also arranged an airport pick-up for me.

Its a nice house that is traditional Assamese in style and has several staff on call throughout the day. The food is home cooked and they are very accommodating with a number of styles; free, coffee and biscuits are provided as well.

The rooms are clean and cosy in a and have en suite bathrooms with TV, and the house is well located if you want to walk down to the river. They are also helpful arranging travel around the airport.

If you're looking for a guest house experience this is a very good one.
