Thanks to Manoj for an enjoyable stay before moving on to Bhutan - our couple of days in Guwahati were very enjoyable, and the Guest House was very comfortable, the service was good, and we were very pleased to be invited to Ayush's first birtrhday party!

Room Tip: A room facing the river...............

Generally the Aaditya Riverview Guest House is reasonable for Guwahati. The manager is an excellent fellow, very helpful in all respects. He does the best job he can in the otherwise terrible conditions present in what is perhaps the worst city in India, Guwahati is generally filthy and dysfunctional in all respects, and cannot be characterized as a pleasant destination. That said, the guest house provides safe and secure accommodation of basic type. Hot water and internet are limited, but nice food can be cooked on request, and a sincere effort will be made to service your needs.

Room Tip: Street facing rooms are noisier.

First af all the rooms are in a very old and decadent house. All the apartment as well as the rooms are dirty. The breakfast is cooket in a "black" kithchen. We give our passports for copy and we recived them after 2 days completly damaged. We ask to the owner to organise a taxi transport to the train station (3 minutes by car) and we paid at least 5 times the due.
We are not indian but not stupid.

Absolutely not recommanded

Yes our building is old but surely not rickety n decadent--we breathe pollution-free oxygen every day directly from the park & river outside, so all residents' inside are healthy !!! The kitchen's hygiene is maintained just like a neat home's & everyday our staff handles(takes from guests' and hands back) various ID's docs like Passports,Drivers licences,etc and we ensure that each doc is" returned in received condition",therefore the 'black kitchen' & "Passport damaged" comments are loose talk.
The taxi's pre-morning high charges were consented to by the guests' and we feel its really silly to mention it in the review. I as manager am in charge of the daily affairs and dragging the owner's name is incorrect,unfair and violates TA guidelines. We understand that its nearly not possible to satisfy all our guests'...but we do try!!

First of all, don't confuse this property with a hotel - this is just a 3 storey residential house doing business (not sure whether legally!) We stayed there during October 2011,and the owner of the property mentioned that he prefers not to give me a bill since I will not get a reimburesement from my office for this trip !!!! The owner is the super master here and he will ensure that you don't enjoy any privacy at all during your stay. He will be knocking your door any moment for even the silly things, will be roaming around your family when you are having food in the dining room..The geyser is always switched off....for hot water you have to first inform the room boy(!!) and then he will seek permission from his super master and the super master will switch it on himself!!! Story does not end here...whenever you are going out, you have to call the room boys who will inspect things such as whether you have switched off the AC/fan etc and then only you get an approval for a going out !!! Food is pathetic but the charges are at par with any 2-3 star hotel.It is also understood why tripadvisor does not have any information on the room rates, because they don't have any standard tariff...If you take the internet route, the super master will ask for 30-40 USD, while we have seen 4-5 people staying in one room adjacent to ours similar to a dharamshala arrangement and definitely paying nearly half the rate....Location also is not at all as rosy as advertised - there is a fish market opposite to the hotel and stinking environment comes free during the morning....Not at all recommended for anyone...

To add some balance to such lopsided reviews, I as manager hereby go on record to state that we operate our guest-house as a business which is fully legitimate and registered with local govt. authorities as required...it does not matter if someone bent on harming us call it a "dharamshala"(charity home) or that ours is a rickety old building--yes, ofcourse, the premises our undergoing some extensions & renovations and a coat of paint is underway!
It goes without saying that each guest is presented the bill@check out..so we are wondering if this guest actually jumped the check-out counter..whatever, we are not interested to know whether someone claims reimbursement or not.We will be most happy to forward a copy of the bill if asked for at any time. We feel that global warming & the recession is taking its toll
on some people already (LOL) !! Let me explain a bit more :

The manager(myself) is in charge of daily affairs & guest relations and I and my small team try our best to keep guests' happy & contended(but sometimes guests can be difficult or unreasonable)....after all,we are not the No.1 B&B in town (till recently) for nothing;

We value guests' privacy uppermost and therefore invite them to the office/reception area to meet us and transact, while a few simply neither turn-up nor co-operate/communicate when it comes to paying some advance deposit/ giving us ID proofs etc.--such super-smarts need reminding and we only do our duty ;

Even little kids understand that the water heaters(geysers)/AC's need switching-off after guests' leave the rooms---there is the occassional junkie who is less understanding in a situation like when he/she flits in and out of the room very often yet never fails to howl at the staff (for no fault of theirs)…the concept of a “super master” is a figment of imagination and such false accusations & ridicule reveals a lot about the person's mind. To add a punch, let me state that we feel proud to have hosted such a creative soul  ;

Our prices are not secret so a simple phone/mail query can elicit prevailing tariffs… as prevalent in our trade, dynamic pricing is followed, so there’s no room for arbitrariness. Therefore, it is utterly irresponsible & absurd to presume things…Period!
We take pride in serving hot & sumptuous meals to the discerning guest who is more concerned about quality of food and less about whether prices are of 2/3star levels!! Worldover, the service industry is rife with such rants from clients'/guests'/customers' and speaking for us, I would like to say we sincerely take it as an ongoing challenge in order to constantly improve our service & product delivery.
Finally, beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder and if a green park and a blue river right in front fails to enthuse someone, what can ? Future guests’ please note that our state’s first citizen His Excellency The Governor of Assam lives down the same road…so you decide.

We hereby reiterate our committment to quality service which will bring a smile on the face of our guests'.

What looked like an enjoyable week turned to hell when the argumentative owner began harassing myself and four visiting friends. This was not just an isolated incident but a clear pattern whereby he would drop by our individual rooms, demanding payment for water bottles (at inflated rates), suggesting we should pay the room charges in advance, attempting to extort money for nights we hadn't booked, and generally troubling us for no good reason. I don't know how many times I intervened to calm the situation, but in the end we decided to stay at another guest house nearby (which turned out to be much better value). His staff are friendly and helpful but sadly, there is a high risk the owner will ruin your riverside experience. On top of that, we had to beg the guy each time we wanted to use the wifi connection! Time for a lesson in how to satisfy your customers Manoj.

Room Tip: Go to another guest house

Hey Charles, we thought you’d be busy enjoying your honeymoon but thanks for managing to write such an “enlightening” review !!! We initially did not wish to respond to all this gossip but had to in order to clear the air...so here we are posting the third management response in as many days and,it saddens us to see how seemingly satisfied and happy souls’ can turn hostile and misuse popular platforms like TA...what is even more surprising is how TA allows reviews carrying personal insults, threats, prejudiced comments, hate speech to be posted in the first place !!
Business sense demands that the owner & staff members create a very congenial & friendly ambience so that guests’ experiences are enhanced. Therefore, it does’nt need explaining that none of us will ever think of offending any guest or interfering with their private affairs. We value guests' privacy uppermost and therefore invite them to the office/reception to meet us and transact, while a few simply neither turn-up nor co-operate when it comes to paying token advance, submitting ID proofs etc. so they need reminding. We at ARGH have a lot at stake as far as the property’s reputation is concerned, therefore, dear reader please rest assured that we are here to make your stay enjoyable & memorable in every manner... and that all accusations&abuses are simply irresponsible.To a specific charge that we over-charged for packaged water bottles, let me clarify that we charge only INR25 (Euro 0.38) for a bottle yet some “deep value seekers” find the price inflated (even by their Euro standards) !! Also, if any evidence exists that we charged any guest for nights not stayed, we will apologise and gladly refund...our conscience is clear so we are cool !! But we admit that there could be errors & scope for improvement in our functioning but that NONE of the incidences stated here & there are deliberate or wilful on the part of the owner, manager(myself) or any staff member. It is unfair & unscruplous that the owner(who's usually away from the guest house property) has been depicted as a mean guy.To conclude, let me add that we believe we know our job and trade and that now we are more committed than ever before to deliver the best, going forward !!
Our guest is blessed.
Our visitor is God.

We were visiting Guwahati on the way to the North East. I had booked Aditya Riverview Guest House online just because it was bang opposite the Brahmaputra River! We reached late night because of flight delays etc. But, thanks to the hospitality, we had fresh hot but - very expensive - traditional food. It was a warm hospitality - and the bedrooms also. Its ambiance is almost like your personal abode. The location is a ve...ry peaceful, during the whole day. In the morning, I went for a long walk as usually I do at home - first on the road and later in the garden right opposite the Guest House. Fresh, cool and free oxygen! Just about 20 minutes walking distance there is a large fish market - numerous varieties of fishes, in size and types. We walked down to the Governor's House - about 45 minutes. What a stay - peaceful, exciting and homely, thanks to the personal touch of Manoj. One drawback, no elevator, can make it tiresome after a long field visit. Still, we are looking forward to visit it again. Do consider it when you are planning a visit Assam and have a darshan of Brahmputra!

Room Tip: Corner suites are spacious and with a window facing the misty but giant river.
