Dolphin resort is one of the Hotels maintained by the A&N Admin. This is a good budget hotel and is on the sea shore. You can walk out of your room onto the beach and enjoy the scenic beauty. The cottages offered are very good and are very well maintained. The staff is friendly and courteous.

The only drawback with this hotel is the lack of a proper restaurant. You need to order your choice of food (veg or non veg) in the morning and you get your lunch. There is no menu to choose from.

It would be best to hire a bike when you reach this hotel and go on your own to the restaurant of your choice.

This is a hidden jewel of a resort in Havelock Island. The net shows up many other properties which are very expensive and not as well located as Dolphin Resort. Being a government/quasi government undertaking (?!) the location of the property is too die for. The rooms are on stilts and fantastic value for money. The food in the restaurant has a limited menu and a little restrictive timings. The negatives in the food department are compensated by the location and view from the property.
Five minutes walk from this resort is the best beach we have been to so far. Imagine your own private shallow, abosolutely clear swimming pool - the only diference is - it is in the ocean. Because this beach is not known and listed in the magazines it is completely virgin in all aspects. You can walk about a mile (easily) in the water towards the horizon. Even non-swimmers can float and enjoy the ocean without any fear. It is so calm and heavenly. The photos that one sees Iof the island are really authentic. If you are a beach lover - this a the PLACE at dirt cheap rates!!!! Only make sure you book well in advance.
Only negative is obtaining the tickets of the ferries to and from Havelock from Port Blair. Make sure you have a return ticket in your hand (not promised by an agent!) before you land at Havelock.

Not bad for a Government accomodation. There is scope for improvement in the cleanliness in the rooms. The food comes with limited choice with a fixed menu, albiet inexpensive.

we stayed in this resort for 3 days and had an above averge experience. but there are problems. this is a govt hotel it is impersonal and booking the hotel is difficult . they have booking centres at kolkata, chennai, and delhi with a given number of quotas which finish off pretty fast. they take bookings starting 2 month prior and yopu need to book then only by draft. if the booking quotas get exhausted ring up the port blair office where the allotted quota of rooms is much higher. you need to make a fax booking and then send a draft of 25% of the total tarriff for confirmation of the bookings the rest of the amount is to be paid on completion of stay.
we stayed in their VIP cottage. It cost us Rs. 2000/- per night meals not included. They are sea facing. The rooms are abosolutely huge with a reasonable size ensuite bathroom. Nice and clean. Continuous hot and cold water available. There is a TV with cable( but not many channels only 8-10). There is a 3+2 sofa, enough chairs and a table. the bed is big and OK. No fridge. The other rooms deluxe and semi-deluxe are smaller.
they provide only fixed buffet meals (breakfast, lunch and dinner).
Cost breakfast Veg Rs. 60, non-veg Rs.75, Lunch and dinner Veg Rs. 100, nonveg Rs. 150 to 200 per person.
You need to order for each and every meal in advance which is bothersome. Food is average. Room service non-exsistent.
If you need your rooms to be cleaned you need to specifficaly tell them in morning otherwise nobody cleans the rooms.
but they were very acomodating and they let us keep our room till 4pm the day we were to check out with no extra cost since our ferry was at 4.30 pm
The beach is absolutely in front. its a bit rocky in low tide but if you walk 50 yards down the beach is much better. in high tide its absolutely beautiful with the waters reaching upto the embankment which is a bit of and eyesore.
the sunrise is nice if you don't have clouds.
also the path to the reception and to the rooms is sand and gravel so carrying laggage is difficult and with not much help at times becomes a pain.

I visited A&N from 31 Jan to 07 Feb 09. For three days i stayed at Dolphin Resort at Havelock at Room No 12. I am ashamed to have choosen the Dolphin Resort. One of the most unorganised administration. Tasteless food with mean minded service by the mess staff. The resort owner needs to show pink slip to the messing and admin staff as the staff is involved in repturing the reputation of one of the best resort at Havelock. I am ashamed to stay at Dolphinb Resort. Further information, the owner and other travellers can contact me at naiksrikant@yahoo.co.in.

Location of Dolphin Resort is good. You can simply walk into the ocean which touches the periphery of the resort. Cottage accomodations are large and airconditioned. Shower n washrooms are just basic. Its a Government property hence do not expect excellent service. Food leaves much to be desired. Fixed menus are there and if you want to order anything special, it takes very long time. Dolphin Resort is good for budget traveller looking for a quite accomodation.
