Fantastic diving at havelock with these guys! They run a super professional unit and are great fun as well. This is my second trip here and and this one was even better. All the DMs (emma, rehaan, mahanya, nalin ) were high quality and anne is the best ive seen anywhere in the world. She makes you feel totally safe and goes out of her way to find and show you the good stuff. I wish i caould go back every month!
Oh..btw, its great on land as well!

the best time to travel would be in months of dec/ jan . We had a wonderful time during that period. Staff in hotel is prompt and efficient . Though advance bookings are mandatory . Best rooms would be the double cottage facing the sea . Need to plan the water activities well in advance . Though Food is very pathetic with not much option in cafe del mar . The pets roaming in the restaurant multiplies the troubles . Numerous time we had to instruct the staff to remove the pets as its not hygienic in food area . Is best to hire a scooter / bike and roam about in havelock . Day charges 400 rs . ideally 3/4 days stay is good . It was really pleasant stay in resort .

Room Tip: Coattage rooms facing sea are best

Note : this is a review of the Scuba and Snorkelling trips and not of the accommodation at the resort. The rooms looked decent and they had a nice view, but since I didn't stay there its not fair to comment about it.

Their brochures say they offer premium snorkelling and diving trips and we took a snorkelling trip to Inglis Island and a basic diving trip to Elephant Beach. For each, we were asked to be ready at 6:30am at our resort - Barefoot at Radha Nagar beach. We reached the Barefoot Scuba resort at 7am for the Inglis Island trip which actually started after 8am ! I don't know why they ask customers to show up and twiddle their thumbs at these unearthly hours.

They didn't let us know the entire itinerary for the Inglis Island trip, and turned out that other than snorkelling there was a trek through the jungle and also free time to laze around on the beach, both of which were good, except we didn't know in advance so didn't carry some things which might have made it more enjoyable.

The diving at Elephant Beach was a great experience and the instructors were helpful and friendly, but then they combined our trip with customers off the beach. That meant our group who had arrived in the boat (and paid for the cost of the boat trip) had to wait for 2 hours while 2 more sets of people dived. This was without food or drink since we didn't know about this plan no one carried money either). Elephant Beach is not exactly a scenic and enjoyable beach once you have done the water activity you planned, since its commercial and crowded.

What should have been a 3-3.5 hour total experience ended up taking almost 6 hours. When feedback was given, they said "they can't say no to customers at the beach". That's a ridiculous excuse since this premium diving trip should have nothing to do with customers at the beach. The whole approach feels like a money making racket and left a bad taste in the mouth.

Next time I want to go diving or snorkelling at Havelock, I will consider options other than Barefoot.

I spent a week diving from this very well run resort. Reservations were promptly and efficiently handled by Internet prior to arrival. (If you are visiting in the Dec.-April high season advance bookings are essential.) The PADI 5 Star Dive shop is deservedly the focal point of attention here as the diving is very good and even gives you the chance to scuba dive or snorkel with the last diving forest elephant in the world--an amzing expereince not to be missed!

I had pre-paid my accommodation and transfers and was picked up from the Makruzz catamaran and dropped back on time. A friendly reception with a welcome fruit juice awaited me and my room was ready immediately even though it was only 11:30 AM. (They ask that you check out at 10 AM to have the room ready for the next guest and late check-out—for an extra charge-is only available if there are no in-coming guests.)

They have a wide variety of accommodation available ranging from sea view cottages to tiny but cute bamboo thatched backpacker “chicken huts” with just a mattress and shared toilet and shower for $2. If there is a booking error in high season they also have a few pup tents. None of the options have air-conditioning or TVs, but that’s not what you come to Havelock for. I opted for one of the “tents cottages” which was spacious and airy with mosquito protectors, sun shades and large fans—a necessity during the day. The tent is attached to a large ensuite bathroom and toilet. There’s a shower with piping hot water, shampoo and soap dispenser. The tent was cleaned every day and towels changed every two days. (Beach towels are available from reception.) It was very comfortable but next time I will opt for a cottage because the lighting in the tent was poor and I like reading and editing my photos at night. The tent also has no lock, but this proved not to be a problem. The room boys are scrupulously honest and reception watches comings and goings during the day and a watchman patrols the premises at night.
Note that there is no WIFI on the premises, but there are a few Internet places a short walk down the road into town. They are all VERY VERY slow so don’t plan on doing any work or uploading photos! There is a mobile signal though.

There are lots of excellent places a short walk from the Barefoot Scuba Resort, which is good as the Café Del Mar on the premises is very average and not that friendly or efficient. To get your breakfast on time before your dive, you have to push! That is a definite weak spot of this otherwise well run facility.

Bottom line if you are a diver stay here, as the dive operation is firts class. The only annoying thing is to arrive on time and have to wait 30-90 minutes for other guests--this happens mostly on the mixed snorkel/dive boats and not when there are only serious divers on a boat. Other dive centers on the island only have traditional dunghi slow, shallow bottomed boats and distances between dive spots and Havelock are far, so you are far better off diving with Barefoot Scuba (they also have top notch divemasters). If you have kids it’s better to stay here too as there is more going on. However, if you are looking for an upmarket experience or a romantic get away stay at the Havelock Resort on Beach No. 7.

You can pay with a credit card at all Barefoot Resorts on Havelock. Check out is quick and efficient—the dive center takes payment for accommodation too and their book keeper is tops!

We booked this in advance inc all the diving, and we were more than pleasantly surprised. This was our honeymoon, spending 10 nights here. We chose the fan cooled sea view cottage. Lovely 2 floored cottage, with a fridge and a veranda. So peaceful and relaxing. The food was delicious and staff cleaned the cottage every day.
The diving guys were really great. Shame the turtle didnt play out when we were there - but WOW fab tropical diving and very cost effective. The boat boys also need a mention because they work extremely hard!
We also booked their homestay in Port Blair (due to the flights out of Port Blair and the ferry over to/from Havelock, you need to stay overnight in Portblair unfortunately). The Nest was clean and staff efficient. Port Blair is not that interesting and VERY different from the atmosphere of the islands.
We will return here in the future, and would happily stay in the tents (they were huge, with a brick bathroom and little veranda) these are on the same level so better for children, Cottage stairs be dangerous if you have kids. There are loads of dive sites to explore and could never fit them all in, during one visit.
Highly recommended.

Room Tip: Fan cooled sea view beautiful, but the fan cooled tents are roomy and comfortable. The A frames are...

I stayed at Barefoot for my honeymoon. The resort is on a beach that is a lot less happening than the other beaches of the Island, which actually works as a great respite after an action-packed day. The room was exactly what you see on its website. The restaurant serves simple, value for money food (but expect to wait a little for service as they cook upon receiving an order). The staff is extremely friendly & were very helpful as we had landed at the hotel without much of a plan for what to do. The only downside is that since it is a scuba-diving focused hotel, there are a lot of "external" visitors during the day which can be quite intrusive. Also, the staff that man's the scuba diving shop sometimes have parties and get-together's late into the evening & can be quite loud. However, the hammocks in the yard make-up for all this :)

Room Tip: Carry mosquito repellent with you; If you are on a honeymoon, opt for the hut that has an enclosed b...

Time: Dec 2012
Type of Room: Fan Cooled Sea view cottage.

The best part about the hotel is the excellent blue sea that you can watch for hours on end, either from your cottage, or from the hammocks laid out beneath the coconut trees just next to the beach - relaxing can't get better than this ! Rooms and bathroom were extremely clean. In fact, the shared bathrooms - for the people who are looking at A-frame huts- were also very clean, no issues. Beautiful white sand beach, also featuring the lone mangrove tree, and the scuba/fishing dunghees - which make for a great photo opp.

(However, the beach was very shallow and rocky - you can see the rocks during low tide in the morning.. and not easy to take a bath in. Also for the most time the beach had a lot of debris that had come in from the ocean, sad how people can very easily and casually screw up such a nice place. Sincere request to all travelers to please avoid plastic. The hotel staff did clean up the beach though, on the last day that we were there.
Also, it could be better if few hammocks were strung out further outside, so as to have an unobstructed view of the beach)

The staff is professional both the front office and the scuba shop. and it was a fantastic discover-scuba-diving experience. Malini in the booking office at Chennai was very helpful with the bookings, as also the staff at the dive shop who answered all our questions before our first dive. Our boat back to port blair was in the evening, so we stowed the luggage at the reception, but were allowed to use the facilities (bathroom, hammocks, etc) till that time even though check-out was by 10 am.

The restaurant was ok.. though we liked the restaurant at Dive India much better.
