A religious experience in a transformed church! Robust reds and not-too-sweet whites were delicious. Multiple patios and a great shelter with a huge stone fireplace quickly became my favorite place to linger. Pack a lite picnic; they don't serve food here. But a roaring fire, bottle of wine, some fruit and cheese and super friendly patrons are all it takes to make you feel at home. What a treat!

Beautiful spot. Wine was decent. Loved the fact that we could bring in some food and enjoy their wine!

We come here every September and bring a picnic lunch. Beautiful views of the vineyards and the wine is wonderful. Always bring a bottle home. Very relaxing.....

We've been going to South River Vineyard since it first opened. When we first saw it, we were intrigued by the fact that it is an historical church that was relocated to the vineyard and turned into a tasting room. That was several years ago before the winery expanded to its present size. Back then it was just the church and a pavilion, so the atmosphere was a little bit different.

But, the wine is very good and as a result, South River has flourished. Today there is a large separate outdoor patio and a large porch has been added to the church. On the weekend, it can get a bit crowded, but generally there is plenty of space for all visitors since the pavilion is still available.

What is really nice is that you are permitted to bring your own food to enjoy with their wine. They do offer a very limited amount of food, mostly cheese plates, etc., but we often bring a picnic lunch or even pick up a pizza on our way to the winery. But, remember to take with you whatever you bring, don't leave a mess for them to clean up.

Great wine, beautiful view, nice people, very relaxing time. Enjoy!!

This was probably one of the most beautiful wineries in the Astabula county. We were last there 3 years ago and were not going to stop since last time wasn't impressed. Has this place changed - very beautiful, we liked some of the wines though a couple Pinot Grios and Riesling both tasted very similar to me and my wife. They also have imported beer for $15/bottle for those who drink beer while better half drinks wine. Place worth stopping.
