“Great place for Lake Erie Perch”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 20, 2013

We make the 30 minute drive to Tackle Box 11 about every month. The Lake Erie Perch is great and more reasonably priced than any other restaurant that we have found. The coleslaw is creamy, the way we like it.The onion rings are great, and can be substituted for the fries, for an additional charge. The fries can occasionally be overfried, but if they are cooked correctly, are delicious and plentiful. The beer is cold and the service is friendly. The atmosphere is very casual and ok for families. There is an inside seating area, a breezeway area with a wall of windows and an outside deck with seating with a view of the river. The only complaint is that we wish that there was an outside deck area with no smoking. The decorations are unique. The driveway slopes, but we have been there even in the winter, and encountered no problems. The restaurant visitors also include boaters, as there is a dock nearby. They have daily specials, but we always get the perch. They have half and whole pound portions. We find that a half pound dinner per person is always enough.

“If you can find it, you will always go back.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 25, 2013

We go to Ohio once a year to work in a summer camp for kids. We ALWAYS go to Tacke Box II at least once. The place IS a little hard fo find, but once you have been there, you can find it again. The perch and walleye is why we go. They are cooked well and the french fries are great. If I lived in the area, I would go once a month at least. The restaurant is on the river and part of the parking lot has been known to flood, so check the sky. The seating is comfortable with old style restaurant chairs and bar stools. The atmosphere is interesting. The owner has used the walls to show off his personal collection of memorabilia, including wood carvings, posters, plaques and all sorts of interesting things. The waiters and waitresses are friendly and treat you like a regular customer. The beer is cold, the restrooms are clean and they have PRETTY GOOD ICED TEA. That is something that is not always available up north. Now, back to the perch and walleye. OUTSTANDING!!!!! I never eat anything else at Tackle Box II. The place is busy, even during the week, and the service is quick and correct. The manager or owner will often come out and ask how the meal was even though he doesn't know who we are or how often we have been there. No sign of a dog on any of our visits. If you are in a wheelchair, call and ask about accommodations. I think there is a ramp, but the restaurant is a full story above the main part of the parking lot because of the river bank slope. The driveway is pretty steep and narrow coming from the street so I don't know how it is in the winter, but I am sure it must be kept clear. There is a sign on top of the hill that shows you the driveway. The tricky part about finding this restaurant is that it is basically on a residential street. The residential street is a straight shot from a well travelled city street. Once you find that, you are there with no trouble. Tackle Box II, 420 Sandusky Ave, Fremont, OH 43420 -- (419) 334-4643 This restaurant is just far enough from Port Clinton that the obnoxious summer people don't come there with their unruly children. Peace and comfort in a neighborhood bar.

“great place to eat!”

This has the best perch and walleye sandwiches or dinners in town! Service is excellent too! Has a lot of neat decor to look at. Great place for a group to eat here!

“Worth the trip.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 24, 2013

Heard good reviews about this place, and we're glad we made the 52 mile round trip to try it. We went during the week, after lunchtime, as we heard it gets quite crowded during evenings and weekends. My wife had the perch and I had the walleye. Both had large portions and came out hot with a mound of french fries. The cole slaw was fresh and chilled just right. The service was good and all the food was delicious. Tackle Box II is up on a hill, overlooking the river, and many of the tables are along a windowed wall for a nice view. The interior is interesting and has a "fisherman's wharf" type of feel to it. Lots of stuff on the walls to look at while you wait for your meal. They have full bar service available too. Use your gps to get here, or you may drive past the entrance a couple times like we did!

“Lovely spot in the middle of nowhere- The highlight in Fremont”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 24, 2013

Food is fried, beer is bottled. I walked over and the area seemed very shady, so actually took a cab back. Came around six pm on a Monday, so place was still half empty. Sat on the bar, had superb service. Food is fresh and good - had fried perch and salad. Owner and daughter were super gracious and offered to take me to my B&B, rather than take a cab. Barmaid was great. I would definitely come back!
