Description: The most accomplished of the waterside tavernas here, Fagopotion has an enviable reputation for its traditional recipes, fresh wild fish caught around the Diapóndia islets and fair prices given a location in the heart of posh ‘Kensington-on-Sea’. Signature dishes include fluffy, non-greasy three-cheese saganáki, succulent, pork-based bekrí mezé, baby squid in late spring, rabbit stew, chard-based tsigarélli (versus the usual wild greens) and melt-in-the-mouth octopus (Christos secret is blanching prior to grilling). Orange cake on the house for dessert.As recommended by Telegraph Travel in 2012....

this taverna has featured in the Guardian and Telegraph in 2008 and 2012 - the articles are on the wall and by the entrance of the outdoors section. 8 of us had a late lunch there after our three hour boat trip which was very nice. Food excellent.

We have been returning for some years now and everytime Christos remembers us and there are sweaty hugs all round. Each time the service has been excellent and Christos keeps an eye on his waiters from across the road - always finishing our meal with complimentary drinks, delish cake and greek yoghurt. I have nothing but praise for the simple menu, service and for the man himself.

We were first beckoned in by a very flirtatious waiter who immediately surprised us with handmade menus written in a blunt pencil no less, and with no explanation of the dishes, some as brief as 'Corfu dish', but none the less we had a table with gorgeous views of the bay and a friendly welcome. The manager, as mentioned in previous reviews is a little 'unorthodox' shall we say, and whilst allowing you to order what sounded like a lovely traditional Greek main course, proceeded to simply insist he choose our starters for us as we clearly could not be trusted! We entered into the ordeal with a light heart as it was obscure but fun! We ended up with a range of starters we otherwise would never have ordered such as pork in a cheese sauce and cheese pie, however bizarrely they were all quite tasty and inexpensive! The rabbit stifado was very tender and flavoursome, a proper Greek dish! We were then greeted with a very delicious and free orange cake and Greek yoghurt and honey for dessert whilst we awaited the bill. It was good fun and value, we would recommend it as it was an experience not easily forgotten!

Ate here twice, pushy manager though - as in other reviews, he does try and sneak dishes on that you may not want - though they are nice! Food was good, though a little inconsistent... Shame the pushy nature of the owner is a bit overbearing. Let people choose themselves!

Following the reviews from TA we didn’t particularly like the sound of this taverna as we don’t like being hassled. However by the end of the week we had noticed that each and every night the place was very busy and locals were eating here at the weekend. We decided to give it a try on our last evening and are we glad we did!

The menu is unlike any other in the resort in that there isn’t the same amount of choice and it is all handwritten in pencil on what looks like old pieces of card tied together. We had the baked aubergine and saganaki to share followed by the roast lamb cooked in rosemary, garlic and mustard with roast potatoes, Bourtheto and the moussaka. Wow, everything was delicious. The complimentary desert of orange backlava and yoghurt drizzled with honey was a perfect way to end the meal. The service was good, but to be expected as having a little one with us we were in early (in fact first).

Oh and the added surprise of no ‘owners suggestions’ or pushy staff as other reviews commented on, would recommend to others, just sorry we didn’t try it for ourselves sooner.
