Red Roof PLUS+ Columbus-The Ohio State University

I just came back from a trip to Columbus, Oh, and I stayed in this hotel...The price was really cheap, the location is excellent (just in front of it there is a supermarket, a gas station and some fast food chains), and the room was really really nice...I went there to visit a friend and to do some shopping, and I have no complains at all in terms of security, parking place, and again, location...jeffersonville outlet was like 45min away, but easton mall, turtle mall and the airport were just like 10-15min from the hotel...If you are planning to go to Columbus, this is the place where to stay in!!

The reviews here don't give you the full picture.

Plus side: the place is clean (though the rooms are small - and I'm from New York, so that's saying something), the internet works well (but you have to pay extra for it). And, the staff is VERY attentive and on the ball. Even though I'm giving a bad review I really have to say it is not the fault of the staff, they were very good and did the best they could. The place is also conveniently located to a lot of fast food - if you like that sort of thing. The hotel seemed fully booked as well so it seems a lot of people stay there, apparently there aren't many hotels under $100 a night in this area.

The problem is the proximity to Ohio State. I stayed on a Friday evening and it seems the hotel is party-central for groups of local college students who rent rooms in order to throw parties, run up and down the halls, yell across the premises, hang out on the decks, etc. I was sandwiched between a couple groups of them so it was probably the worst hotel experience I ever had...and to top it off, at 2am, a high-speed car chase wound up with the car slamming into a light pole right outside my window and 20 cop cars pulling up outside the hotel. I don't know if that sort of thing happens every night, but it's definitely not a "quiet" location.

The staff was good about immediately asking the partiers to be quiet when i called down. The problem was it only seemed to aggravate them more and send them into occasional screaming/running rages down the hallways, then ducking back into rooms to avoid being caught. Dealing with people like this at 2am is only fun if you are another drunk college student; if you are traveling with family or on business, I'd stay away from this place, at least on weekends, or until the management decides not to tolerate this sort of clientele (but it seems to be a major portion of their business).

Everything did finally quiet down by around 2:30am, so if you're a night owl and won't be back to the room by then, then it's probably no problem.

But otherwise, my advice: unless you are an OSU college student looking for a place to party, spring for an extra $50/night and get some sleep.

This is a terrific Red Roof Inn property. Exceptionally clean, updated rooms, small fridg.& microwave too! TV had multiple channel options and a large screen.

The location is quiet yet convenient to OSU and Downtown Columbus. (If you look at the address on GoogleEarth you'll see how well situated it is.)

Front desk staff was friendly and helpful. The room was spotless and the parking area safe and well lighted. All around a fine experience. Was there on two nights of 10 degree cold weather -- but the room was warm and tight.

You can't go wrong here.

Initially chose this hotel as a family member was a patient at the James Cancer Center at OSU and my length of time in Ohio was unknown. Wanting to be minutes from the hospital but not spend a fortune, I elected to try Red Roof Inn. The room was clean, the shower was hot and the price was right. The drive was short and easy to OSU. If you are looking for plush accommodations, this is not it. If you are looking for a good night's sleep that will not drain your bank account - this is it. The staff was always helpful and very friendly.

Utilitarian hotel that was fine for the price. Close to all Ohio State attractions and the room was clean.

I booked a room in June of 2006 at this hotel.I thought that I should warn everybody out there that this hotel did not live up to the reviews on this site.First off, there is a chicken place and a Mc D's within spitting distance so if the smell of fried chicken and french fries everytime you open the door is a problem you might want to book elsewhere. And you will want to open the door as the smell of the room itself was organic to say the least. After asking to change rooms once(I think someone urinated in the a/c unit) I settled into another room only to realize that the whole place had a funk about it.Next problem encountered was that I could not get the staff to change the sheets. When you check in you will find a card on the bed asking if you want the sheets changed,to leave the card out for the maid the next morning. This mysteriously disappeared the 2nd day of a 1 week stay.I left hand-written notes asking for a sheet change for several days and this was ignored.I finally called the desk on the 6th day and had someone come up while I was out and throw a set of sheets over the mattress, untucked. It reminded me of when I would ask my teenage son to make his bed. Also, had a gang of hard-drinking,carney types(laying roof in Columbus),that made their presence known to all around 2:30am staying next door.Rough week.I would not recommend this to hotel to anyone.
