Keep far away from this hotel. Not only are the valet parkers especially incompetent in their jobs and will deny any damages they will do to your cars, but the rooms themselves are terrible. No mini fridge for such a high class hotel, very late wake up calls, extremely uncomfortable beds, and all of the rooms seem to share a very strange, foul smell. Also, do not expect to sleep soundly. It's a convention hotel, and the noise made by convention goers late at night will definitely keep you up.

Loved this hotel! Hotwire had it listed as 3.5 stars. I would give it 4. Be sure to request one of the corner rooms on a high floor.

If you have any opportunity to stay elsewhere, do. If you can get your company NOT to use this hotel as their conevnion hotel, do. I came for a conference recently and although the location is close to the Arena District and Short North for entertainment and dining, this hotel allowed panhandlers to roam everywhere assaulting guests asking for money. Everyone in my group was approached 5-10X over two days --- in the elevators, at the bar, in the lobby, in the hallways. It was annoying and at night, scary. The staff either seemed unaware or didn't care. One night a man at the Sky Bar on the second floor sat down, ordered water, was brought a bowl of free bar snacks, and proceeded to ask everyone around him to buy him dinner and drinks. The waitress told him they didn't allow that kind of thing there, but it was obvious he was homeless, so I don't know why he was allowed to sit in the first place. It's too bad because the hotel is fine, but the security stinks and I would neve recommend this hotel to anyone unless they enjoy being stalked and harassed.

If I had to guess, I would say this property is the result a late 1970’s/early 1980’s urban development project that in it’s day was a big deal. In the decades since, it appears as though the Hyatt chain has foregone any major updates. And it shows.

For starters, my room was in a bizarre triangular shape. The bathroom, for instance, was long and narrow. My shower (there was no tub) was set behind the bathroom door and not much larger than a small closet. The heating/AC unit was one of the older winder-controlled units—5 minute blasts of hot air…then off…hot air blast…then off…all night long.

And then there is the bar. It’s set a floor above the lobby, in what appears to be a second lobby, adjacent to the convention center entrance. On this night, it was packed with trade show exhibitors. Load, boisterous and rowdy, many of these folks should have been cut off two or three drinks ago but instead carried on…spilling beer…yelling at one another…and so on.

None of this was what I expected when I booked a downtown Hyatt.

We stayed at the Hyatt Regency in early January while my daughter and her friend attended Ohayacon (an anime/manga convention - enough said). The rooms are well done, and the location next to the convention center and Nationwide arena can't be beat. The hotel restaurant is nice, and has a take out "deli" available for quick meals. In the convention center (attached) there is a food court on the first floor offering a variety of fast foods - Subway, pizza, burgers, Chinese, Japanese, etc... which gave us some reasonably priced meal options for the weekend. I used the exercise facility and found the equipment in working order and well maintained.

Our only problem was the elevator service. This hotel is not set up for a "full" status with multiple people in each room, as there was this weekend. The hotel is about 18 stories, and waits for one of the four elevators could approach 10 minutes. The stairs were an option, but being as I was on the 17th floor, not much of one for trying to get up to the room. People figured out on the lower floors that it was quicker to hop on an elevator going up and then they were guaranteed a spot going down. So even on the 17th floor the elevators wouldn't stop going down because they were already full. Given the type of convention (a "leisure" oriented one, with lots of coming and going, not a business one), the waits usually started around 10 or 11 in the morning and continued until late at night.

Overall, a good option for a convention or hockey game, and if the hotel is full ask for a room on a lower floor so you can use the stairs if necessary.

Please choose another hotel when visiting Columbus. The beds were very uncomfortable not to mention the bathroom being so small that the door practically hits the toilet!!!!!!!!! With tax, we paid $145 for one night. Previously, we stayed at the Drury Inn next door, and I would recommend that over the Hyatt Regency. The "so-called" indoor pool was freezing and not much bigger than my garden tub!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We spent one night at this hotel, which we booked over Priceline. Since it was a couple of days before Christmas, the hotel was nearly empty. The room was very comfortable and clean and exceeded our expectations. Both the room and bathroom were a bit small, but well laid out, so this wasn't a problem. While we didn't use any of the amenities at the hotel, the staff were very friendly and helpful. The building also has a large lobby and unusual architecture.

The best feature of this hotel is its convenient location, within easy walking distance of both downtown and all of the fabulous shops and restaurants in the Short North district. This is a great place to stay for exploring Columbus.

As is typical of large downtown hotels, the Hyatt charges a pretty high fee for parking. We found free street parking across the street, and would recommend this if staying here during a weekend or quiet period in the city.
